I'm looking for a cooler that'll do a better job than the standard intel jobbie but not huge (it's to go in a mATX-based system so space is at a premium). Specifically, no more than 110mm high - and yes, that means the Freezer 7/Noctua/Tuniq/Ultra-120 etc. don't fit.

Must also be easy to install, preferably with pre-installed thermal compound, otherwise 'fat fingers' here will probably break it. :(

Suggestions welcome. :)

Silverstone NT-06 (or lite) would do you with or without fan. Which case is it as the NT-06 is specifically made by Silverstone for use in the Sugo cases without a fan. The Silverstone NT-03 is also very good, although it can start to get whiney for HTPC applications.

Pushing it slightly I'll wager. Does well with a Dual core at close to 3GHz but thanks to a slight mistake in my first overclocking attempt I know it struggles a bit if the TDP goes up. Anyway, doesn't fit, so it's out.

As for the case, this is the current frontrunner. :)

Well I ran my Q6600 @ 3.2 on the stock cooler with no problems.. My case has pretty good air-flow which could be a factor.. My dad has a Zalman CNPS8700 running in a similar setup and he has his Q6600 in there at 3.4 running at around 50/52c at full load so well worth considering

Hmm. Got the CNPS8700 in and currently doing 2x Orthos stuff. It's hitting 57C @ stock though, which is a fair whack hotter than a previous post suggests it should be.

I believe that's well within the 'comfort zone' for the CPU though, and I don't need to overclock it, but I wonder if I've done something wrong.

PS - idle in the low 30s if it matters, and fans are at about 70% (that's where I expect to run them during 'normal' use). It's a small case (Antec Fusion) but airflow seems good enough.

i've got the zalman 8000 as the 8700 doesn't fit in a sugo01 without a bit of bending. It keeps my quad to 58-60 under load and 38-42 idle depending on room temps. My biggest problem is cooling the 4gb of RAM next door!

I had the SG06 fanless cooler and it was great for the 6750 i had but i was concerned about how much heat would be put through my PSU with a quad so went active.
