I use Avast.

All good ones from XP will work in Vista.

I found AVG never used to actually find or do anything with viruses, so use Avast. It uses sod-all of my system, so doesn't really matter.

EDIT - Well I don't notice it killing my machine, so it must be fine.

They do a 3 month trial of their premium version, and their classic version is free.

it does a scan in about a 10th of the time. Also scored better in recent test.

ive just looked and you have to buy the premium version,were can you download it and try for 3 months

I just found the link and it is a 90 day trial for their security suite, which includes firewall, but the key they send you should work with either Premium or Security suite, so it's up to you which one you want to use.

First get your licence from here; http://www.avira.com/en/evaluate/vnu.php

Then download either Premium or Security suite from here; http://www.avira.com/en/download/index.html

I am using the 90 day trial on premium, because I do not need a firewall, antispam, etc. I just need an antivirus.

Not sure if it's AVG or NOD but the X64 editions actually run on 32 bit code bodged to work on X64.

Personally I'm probably going back to Symantec though this isn't free. I know then I will be completley protected then. I've been playing around with Sophos (too many false positives - I mean what does 'exhibiting suspicious behaviour' mean?) and aVast (which blocks certain programs updating though I may just have to mess around with the config to fix).

Zildjian m8 i registered and they sent me a email saying the atachment was in my email but all that is there is 4 files attachment 36tmp 37tmp 38tmp 39tmp but they said it is a hbedv.key.file is this what you got sent to you m8 cheers
