Sadly I think with the shortage of GDDR5 chips we wont see a 1GB for a few weeks, at the end of the day they can either make 2 512MB cards or a 1GB card.

Just hope we see some UK stock today and the price gouging isnt too rampant

Look at the AA scaling now with 48xx cards, incredible:

The only question is 4870 or 4850 CF, hmm

I may hold off for awhile, my 8800GT will server me until the next batch of cards.. around christmas?
A wise decision These 4870 only get 35 fps on crysis 1680-1050 with no AA hardly a ground breaking card.
It should be £150-£170 but knowing rip off britain it will be £200 +.

Compared to what Nvidia have now its a groundbreaking card especially with the price. Stopped looking at Crysis benches a long time ago. Nothing runs it that well.

Ignore crysis IMHO, in the rest of the tests in these reviews the 4870 tends to smoke the competition when taking into account the price.

In summary it beats the GTX260 and comes close to the 280 sometimes even beating it.

I want to see some minimum framerate reviews though.

It's ground breaking if it's £150 yea the 4850 is £120 and probably even less soon so if this is around £230 I don't think it's that amazing seeing as xfire 4850's trounces it and can be had for £240 right now.
Great card but only great because of nvidia overpricing their cards.

You are right 4850 CF destroys it and it's very tempting at ~£250, like others Im thinking 4870 now and add a second later.

If I see one more person say: "zomg it doesn't run at Crysis at 60fps it's a crap card" I think i'm going to cry. You expect it from noobtards, but not experienced members. Crysis' engine will be retrofitted by the new Crysis : Warhead engine anyhow, which runs twice as fast as the original, so it will be running at 60fps on a £500 machine before too long.

Please... no more "It doesn't run Crysis fast" posts... each time someone makes on a fairy dies. Please save the fairies. Sigh.

It's a card that costs less than £200 that nips at the heels of a card that costs £400+. whoever can't see that needs to wipe their glasses and take another look.

Heh you sound like such a fanboy. Crysis is a broken engine which they won't even bother to fix and patch. These cards have doubled in power in certain areas and yet Crysis doesn't scale with that power, it's worthless to use it for comparisons since all hardware runs it badly.

A £200 card being only 10% slower than a £400 card IS ground breaking.

I find it remarkable that companies such as AMD (vs Intel), NVidia (vs AMD) etc when they were "winning" they almost show a lack of innovation, and underestimate their competition, allowing them to come flying straight back.

Nvidia must feel stupid after their propoganda in countless games and adverts.

Anandtech: http://anandtech.com/video/showdoc.aspx?i=3341

Looks like ATI win this round with 4850 and 4870, thank god for that. If Nvidia had carried on their domination it would have been poor for all of us.

Anandtech's review is the best one yet, waiting for Firingsquad's now

Latest ATI offerings are great, and with their driver support will be even better, Nvidia's countering with the pending 9800GTX+ is a token gesture waste of time and the GTX260/280 cards must come down in price now surely

4870X2 is gonna smoke the GTX280 and possibly £50 cheaper at least

Can't wait for someone to test an o/c 4870 v GTX280 now, esp with memory bandwidth games

The only thing Nvidia have to compete funnily enough is the old 8800GT, in SLI it offers incredible performance and bang for the buck. Shame you need a dogs**t nvidia motherboard.

In Anand's review there is a funny with 48X0CF, can someone explain how they get more than a 100% increase when adding a 2nd card:

Crysis is important though I run vsync always so anything over 60 fps in other games is useless to me because I cannot stand tearing so the card that can hit over 60 fps comfortably in crysis is truly a great card.
To dismiss crysis because it's badly coded is not right it's a measuring stick with which all cards will be judged for years to come.
Everyone wants to max out crysis and play it through I know I do not to mention I happen to think the online is awesome.
A card that can own crysis is ground breaking a card that can own an overpriced nvidiot card because it can be made cheaper is only ground breaking for ATI's bank balance.
If crysis is so unimportant then why is it in every single benchmark going.
