I was outside my work today and seen an Asian man walking down the street with a foot long curved blade attatched to his belt. He was walking along the street with his hand on the blade.

I then proceeded to phone the police just to be told that hes allowed to carry it as its for religious reasons.

I find that totally stupid, he could do some serious damage, If he gets into a fight the first thing he will do is reach for the blade.

Anybody else think thats wrong?

they don't allow for more trivial laws allowing catholic adoption agencies to not give children to gay couples. But there happy to make allowences for other religions to carry weapons? :o

im sorry but you obviously do not understand the sikh religion. they carry it only if they are VERY religious and would never use it unless they needed to defend themselves or their family, and probably wouldn't use it even then.

Its part of the 5 K's of the sikh religion. Personally, I think its fine as long as the other 4 K's are adhered to. Carrying it without head clothing for example I think is wrong.

yes but it means theres nothing stopping someone isn't "very religious" from saying they are as an excuse.

But someone could always take it and use it on them, ;)

EDIT: The guy below has my vote

Say what you wish, But I dont really care about his religion, Hes living in Britain, Our Laws, We ban the carrying of knife and thats the way it should be, No exceptions.

this kind of stuff makes this country a laughing stock

knifes are not to be carried in public, unless of course you follow a certain religion

I've never in my life heard or read about anyone being hurt with one of the knives Sikhs carry.

If someone wants to carry a knife to hurt someone, they will regardless of the law. If a Sikh wants to carry one for religious reasons, and never uses it (which they don't!), it's alright if you ask me.

well thats narrow minded of you

I bet if a chav with a hunting knife in his trousers walked down the street two minutes later the police would be around there in minutes. Why should someone be excused from the law just because it is part of their religion.

Turbins, Headscarves are fair enough. A weapon is ridiculous.

its double standards though.

yes imo, but doesnt mean it cant be part of a religion.

What about all those people who listed their religion as Jedi in the last census? Are they all allowed to carry lightsabres?
