4670 vs 3850?

its for a mate to try some newer games like cod4 etc, he already plays source stuff but it doesnt run amazingly on his current card

Yeah should be fine, it is a good card for most of the mainstream. Enthusiasts are too worried about fps imo, personally i cant tell the difference between 60 fps and 100fps!

Do you have the card? If so which one?

Also, what res do you play at? and can you max most of your games out?

Sorry to go off topic a little OP, just saves me making a whole new thread where people will just say. '4850!!!'

Haven't got the 4670 but ive gotta 3850 512mb. They do seem to be very similar though.

My native res is 1680x1050 and tbh the newer games wouldn't be playable at that res. CoD4 and Bioshock i can play pretty much maxed at that res as well as FEAR and half life, but crysis, stalker 2, oblivion really struggle. They are still playable at lower res tho.

The 4670 would match my 3850 at least i would imagine but for more eye candy a 4850 would be better obviously.

3850 is mostly faster than the 4670, especially when you crank up the res and apply AA/AF the 3850 pulls away. Have a read of these reviews:-

Firing Squad.

You have to jump between these next two as they were not reviewed together.

Guru3D 4670 review.

Just pick the games that are the same.

Anandtech Only tested at 1280x1024 and put's it on a par with the 4850 in Crysis.

TechPowerup This review is all over the place and they find the 9600GSO and GT to be faster when most of the others say they are slower than the 4670.

I was going to go for a 4670 for my second pc but am more inclined to go for the cheaper and mostly faster 3850 now. Bear in mind that the 3870 is faster than both and can be had from OCUK for £68.

cheers for all the replies will probs be going with the 4670 after reading the reviews and on the recommendations
