I'd like to up my meagre RAM, but am unsure whether i can upgrade the spec as well as the MB / GB

I currently have PC 2700 333mhz ( 1 x 500mb + 1 x 256 MB ) but i'd like 2 x 1 GB modules and found this stuff

----------------
Value RAM's is a kit of two 128M x 64-bit (1GB) DDR2-800 CL5
SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) memory modules. Total kit capacity it 2GB. The components on each module include sixteen 64M x 8-bit (16M x 8-bit x 4 Bank) DDR2-800 SDRAM in FBGA packages. Each 240-pin DIMM uses gold contact fingers and requires +1.8V

----------------------

It doesnt state what the PC rating is but i bet its larger than PC2700. Now i was told by a friend that his brother tried PC 3200 RAM in a mobo that previously had PC 2700 RAM, and it killed his Mobo. It just has me worried now.

Should i just play safe and go find some new ( if still available ) PC 2700 or will the KVR with that spec be ok ?

Thanks

That which you've linked to is DDR2 and WONT work.

PC3200 should be fine, do you have a motherboard model number to confirm ?

I've seen " OCZ 2GB (2x1GB) DDR 400MHz/PC3200 Platinum XTC Memory Kit CL2 2.8V " at £58 and might be worth a google.

DDR costs a lot more than DDR2 does at the moment unfortunately.

From searching the internet it says the max RAM you can have is 2GB of PC2700 (333 MHz), I would recommend just keeping it at the same type (PC2700), just because it is made for that. Although saying this, my PC has PC2700 in it and the max it can go to is PC3200, I would say yours can too.

Thanks guys - i dont really know how to check the Mobo model. I thought the crucial scanner might have found that out, but it doesnt even have my HP model number in the drop down box when trying their manual search. Too old i spose :)

So i need DDR not DDR2 , and it looks like i can use bigger Mhz and higher PC rating 3200

Thanks - just a quickie - i need 184 pin ? I've seen all sorts of KVR already and some are 200 pin ?
