Thanks BFG

Yes its another dead card from BFG. This is my 3rd or is it 4th, Anyway its going back to wales to be replaced AGAIN.

Im just wondering if anyone else has the exact same faults 2 of my cards seem to sufer from???

Failing to start on the first attempt then after a few weeks it dies for good. Im just hoping its not a fault on my mainboard causing it. Although my main board checks out all ok and power supply is fine.

Not looking for fault finding just wonder if anyone has had the same fault.

I'm having problems with my 8800GTX, second replacement is dead im waiting for them to call me but im not holding out much hope, i will probably end up ringing their wales warehouse.

don't take this the wrong way but at least they have good support :)

its just a little tiresome having to send the bloody thing back all the time

Yeah Think they need to get a new company to build the cards with bit more quality. Cant complain about the service tho. I lost the number for the wales warehouse but that dont matter because they didnt give me a RMA number this time.

Not NV bashing or anything but these 200 cards seem to be dropping like flies from six months to a years use, I remember they released a cut down 55nm version, I think these are the ones failing badly. As for BFG, yeah their customer support has gone to the dogs as of late

............ I'm convinced they just send you back a card that has been RMA's for a different reason than the one you send in. At least - that explanation would have fitted for my 295 saga.

Finally got one that worked and then sold it on.

NV cards are like hens teeth atm. These will all be refurbished cards, probably by a 3rd party company. If BFG have any sense they'll get them repaired properly, it does seem like lots of RMA returns from them are going wrong.

If somone has the number for the warehouse in wales would gladly ask them if these are new cards. I doubt they are as they dont even come in a new box.

It seems BFG have a higher failure rate rather than a problem with nVidia cards as such - tho there is a common soldering failure that sometimes rears its ugly head on 200 series cards.

Its a bit weird as AFAIK they are all the same cards just different stickers... but I've not seen BGA soldering and similiar failures of such numbers with other makes.

TBH tho I'm starting to think many of these repeat failures are down to user error in some way... they replaced my 65nm 260 maxcore recently and its still working fine fingers crossed and both my friends watercooled BFG 9800GTX+ failed within a short period of each other :( and the replacements have worked fine ever since.

I find it really odd as I'm pretty sure these cards are probably even off the same batches as other makes - yet everyone I know whos bought a BFG card have had to RMA it within a year - but I don't know of anyone with repeat failures.

What makes the 55nm cards more prone to failing?

If buying 2nd hand (I'm trying!), is it best to get an older 65nm or get the newer cards? Most of the 216 core are 55nm aren't they?

216 cores are both 65 and 55nm - I'd say it was the 65nm 200 series cards that are failing more (from the BFG line) personally from my experience... tho if your buying second hand just stay away from BFG cards they seem to be the problem.

They used cheaper materials with the 55nm cards to cut back on costs because ATI were doing them with the 4800 cards, cheap DVI sockets, thiner PCB, all adds up to fail rate central.

You might also want to consider that BFG were one of the most popular manufacturers to offer a 10 year warranty, and so cards are covered for a long time. Your replacement could be fairly old already, and with them being totally unreliable it's not surprising they have loads of returns. Still, you'd think they'd be tested properly before they leave. I like to think they are.

No sign of Jeff recently.

This wouldn't explain why BFG have a much higher failure rate than other brands - some have very low return rates on 200 series cards.

Jeff has had his P45  I mean whats BFG got left to offer the customer at this time, by the time fermi arrives they may well have gone under.
