First off we'll start with the notifications...

I'm using the htc mail as my gmail as i like the fact you can schedule when to pull* the email from gmail/exchange. This works sporadically and i don't know why. When i send test emails it seems to work but with everything else, i'm left waiting!!!!

I have 'peak time' to be every single minute of the day and to pull the email every ten minutes, but when i access the app, all of a sudden i have new mail..... (i prefer this method instead of leaving sync on all the time as per the gmail app)

As for the alarm, it works (only tested it with test alarms within a 60 minute interval) but for my morning alarm (3, to get me up :)) These ALL fail. These fail even when the phone is being used.

As far as i know all settings have been adjusted accordingly.

*I say pull, but it may be push not entirely sure.. :)

The alarm clock relies on the Clock process and possibly also the Calendar process. You should set both of those to Ignore so your Task Killer doesn't disable your alarm clock.

Other people said that using task killers have strange effects which have all been removed when removing the task killer...

I just killed every process then ran an alarm and it worked.. :-/

I know i'm not alone with these results as other forum members have had the same issues...

The OS will be doing its own task management too, it may not necessarily be showing everything to that application.

As a test, i will exclude the calendar and clock app from being killed tonight before bed.

...i'll update this in the morning. Might become a pain in the ass and i'll easily forget. Hopefully i can include a 'always exlude clock and calendar' in the settings.

As for the mail notification, any clues?

I've got my old phone i'm using as alarm at the moment. It alarms even when switched off. Probably the only thing good about the phone lol.

Right, alarm set for 14.24...

You can add apps into the ignore list so that they are always excluded when using task killer.

I had the same problem with the alarm on the t-mobile pulse, as soon as I excluded it from task killer it fixed the problem, didn't need to add the calendar.

I'm guessing your e-mail problem is the same, exclued whatever app your using from task killer and it should be fine.

Ok, as for the notifications i believe i need to exclude the System Settings and also Mail from the task killer list.

That's weird as I'm using Advanced Application Manager Free, I closed all applications down and I'm able to recieve notifications fine.

Tested by sending emails to my work account, come through the same time as my work desktop picks them up.

I have to admit, the cross application sharing can be a pain on this phone. I just killed all my tasks, launched Facebook which seemed to also launch Maps and Messages?

Why does it need to load these? I know Facebook connects with "People" application but it opens messages instead.

The standard (HTC) mail app is a pull type (it pings server at preset time to check for new mail). With regards to the messages appearing when you enter the app - there is a setting to "refresh on open" under "general settings" of the mail app which pings the server when you open the mail app.

If you are setting your client to check every minute you would be better to install K-9 Mail from the market. Its free and will do Push IMAP on your account meaning you will get email pushed to you within a min of it arriving on your server.

Doing this WILL affect battery life tho as there is a constant connection going back and forth to server for new emails...

Try setting the alarm and saving it. As you save it, pay close attention to the screen and a small pop-up will tell you how long before the alarm goes off... Just double check this matches so you know for def that the alarm is set....

Thanks for the responses :)

The alarm - Well i did what was advised and excluded the clock app from being killed by my task manager and....................It worked. Suprisingly i was quite happy to hear that usual annoying tune first thing in the morning :) (I also excluded the 'settings' app btw)

Also, the mail - I excluded that app from the task killer as well and i'm receiving mail when expected now.... (in a 10 minute interval, although i will increase this to hourly to save resources.)

Thanks a lot for all the help on this (all of you!!) btw. Much appreciated!!!! :)

I wouldn't necessarily blame task killer, i'd blame me for not excluding tasks that require to be active at all times :)

I now need help with vibrate.

The phone refuses to vibrate when new sms's and emails are received. It's all set on etc etc..

Any ideas?
