Quadrant, people may know benchmarks android phones at the moment.

Here they've analysed each component of the score using the pro version.

So these are the two that are concerned with the processor and gpu. Interesting to see the benefit 2.2 gives by comparing the Nexus One with the Evo, which are both using snapdragon. Also both from my experience and shown here, Snapdragon CPU seems to be slightly slower than the other SoCs, even though they are all using 1ghz Cortex A8 processors. Otherwise, the results are as expected.

Note that Samsung Captivate = Samsung Galaxy S and Motorola Droid = Motorola Milestone. The HTC Magic is also using a much lower resolution than the rest, whilst running 2.2.

For comparison, the iphone 4 SoC, the "Apple A4" made by Samsung, uses a 1ghz Cortex A8 processor with a PowerVR SGX535 GPU. It is also 45nm tech.

To summarize, the three high-end chipsets being used in Android phones are:

- Qualcomm: 1 GHz 65nm Cortex-A8 + Adreno GPU
- Texas Instruments: 1 GHz 45nm Cortex-A8 + PowerVR SGX530
- Samsung: 1 GHz 45nm Cortex-A8 + PowerVR SGX540

Hopefully, with the next generation of phones using Cortex A9 processors, Qualcomm will use a more powerful GPU to compete. But then again, how many people use mobile phones for graphics hungry gaming.

One slight correction there is that the Snapdragon isn't a full/stock Cortex-A8 chip, it's been tweaked by Qualcomm, which is why it's the only one that hits 1GHz at 65nm (I'm guessing they've tweaked the pipeline to get the clockspeed, which would also explain the lower performance...)

They definately do need to improve the GPU though, iirc the dual-core versions are still using the same Adreno GPU as well :(
