4pm + my Internet brakes...

I just built a new computer and im on SKY Broadband will run at 5-6mb during non peak hours, but come 4pm + my youtube wont work, cant browse fast, look at facebook pictures, download programs.

Any idea what this could be?

your being throttled at peak times because you have downloaded to much PORNZZZZZZZZZZZ for the month going over your fair usage policy?

You maybe being throttled, might be worth giving them a phone to see what's happening.

You're being throttled, it's normal for heavy downloaders.
Really the only ISP I know that doesn't throttle if you download too much is Be Broadband...

Is this a regular thing or just a one off. If it is a one off it maybe 'maintance' (on a saturday night ) or you are been throttled. If it continues give them a bell

lol i use to get 1000+ Kb/s d/l speed now its only 120 Kb/s. this was after i sent a complaint to talktalk about the router they sent me..sigh*

I dont really download much any more.
I use youtube a lot and play WOW.
What is DB gains?

No throttling here and I'm on Sky BB, but I'm LLU. The Sky BT product is awful I hear.

Virgin Media 50mb connection doesnt have download usage policy. That was the main reason i went for 50mb

Youtube counts as downloading, as it downloads the video into a temporary folder on your PC in order for it to play the video. So it all builds up after a while.

Just ran Sky, and they said that from 5-12pm they hire the connection from BT at that time, and so it goes slower or something.....
So they said find the master socket with BT on it, and connect my router straight into that, could not find it....dont think I have one.
He said we cant do anything about it till Sky upgrade in my local area.....
So from 5-12pm I cant browse the internet at all, and I think the parents just made a 12 month contract with Sky.

Any advice?

tell them is poor service... Where in there contract does it say "btw you will have no bandwith dueing peek times"

I have done a address thing, and it says my area supports 8-10mb.
But my mate who is next door is on BT 50mb.

Should I say to them the service is poor and change internet provider?

Maybe its all the kids getting in from school and going online in your area

My ISP does this after 12pm . My internet runs at top speed, they just throttle different download sites for some reason, something to do with traffic shaping?
