Just signed up for O2 broadband, after a 19 day wait it arrived, and it works! (Well, it maxes at 5.12mbps but that's for another shouting match).

The thing is, I hate the free Wireless Box that they've given out, and I have my beloved DG834G sitting next to me. It has DGTeam firmware and is by far my favorite router.

I've tried to follow this, and this, but to no avail.

Has anyone got the latest crop of O2 packages, with the Wireless Box IV, who has managed to get an DG834G to work with it? Help? :D

The settings your linking to look correct and are the same as the settings I'm using with my DG834N.

Just to make sure is your DG834G a V4 router as iirc only V3 models upwards support ADSL2+.

Aye it is, I'm certain on that. I had a V5 before but that has been retired to my Dad's house. I bought the V4 because it has some fancy things I can fiddle with to make it give more speeds. :p

I shall have another play tonight and screenshot the settings I'm using. Would you mind comparing them with yours to see the difference? As far as I can remember, the DG834N and the DG834G V4 are identical in terms of their ADSL speaky technology.

Plan B: If it all goes wrong you could just use your DG834G V4 as a wireless access point and keep the current modem for just connecting the ADSL :-)

Yeah no problem more than happy to compare settings.

There will be no Plan B yet. :p

I hope to get the DG834 running simply as a modem, with all the logging, firewall, wireless and all that junk turned off, then use the line noise calibrationy stuff to get as much speed from the line as possible, then set up a DMZ forwarding thing straight to my Sonicwall TZ170, which will act as the router, then use the O2 wireless box as the WAP with a view to getting a posh dedicated N WAP when I can be bothered.

Hehe, thanks. I also have plans of a server in the cupboard under the stairs but need to get the network working properly first, which unfortunately means finding a way of forcing this router to play nice with O2.

Right, spent an hour or so fettling now. Here are all my settings as they stand. (blurred out the MAC addresses, but I've checked them).

The routers detects the DSL line, it can tell me I should be getting 8.644mbps down and 1.308mbps up, and it even tells me how many DB of noise there is on the line, but I can't get it to connect.

All I've done so far, is to set everything to what it should be according to the O2 website, and I've tried spoofing the MAC address to be that of the O2 Wireless Box. No Luck.

The O2 site does say that I need to set ISP name to "O2 Home Broadband", could this be the Domain Name?

Tried it with "O2 Home Broadband" in the Domain Name box, and I left it unplugged overnight as I read somewhere that you needed to wait at least 30mins before changing to the Netgear router because of something to do with Mac addresses.

I've completely exausted my own ideas now. :(

Greetings

I done this a few weeks ago with a DG834GT
Remove the dot from " Use This MAC Address "
Give it a hour or so and connect it back up.

There is no need to copy the mac from the o2 routers.
Doing so it will take time for the radious server to let you connect.

Also drop the snr down a bit, i was able to get mine all the way down to 1% and still have a stable connection and noise free phone line.

To be fair i only used it for testing as i like the o2 wireless box IV but i like what you can do with the netgear the options you have on the router is great.

I'll do it again tonight. Realised that I left the line unplugged last night, but then when I connected the O2 router it was still trying to spoof the mac address. >_<

Once I have a connection, I shall be thoroughly fettling the SNR and all the other little fancy things this router has to offer.

Your basic connection settings are identical to mine with the exception of the DNS servers which I set manually to use Google's Public DNS Servers 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4
I also spoof the MAC address of my O2 router on my Netgear - everything I read states it does no harm.

Have you tried a complete reset on the Netgear? If not try a total reset to the basic Netgear firmware for your router and see if you get a connection with it on your line - as in gaining an IP and DNS servers.

If you get a connection then you'll know it's not the router just the DGTeam firmware and you can set to work investigating the cause.

Still battling with this... It can get a DSL connection and reports much higher DSL speeds than the stock one, but then can't get an IP address from O2. Any ideas why?

I've spoofed the mac address of the O2 router on the Netgear, still no luck.

EDIT: All sorted at last, reflashed the firmware and got it sorted.

Nope, I signed up for the package, tried to make it go, it failed, recently my O2 router has been rubbish, so I've been trying again.

Didn't want to re-flash because it was running DGTeam firmware, which is cool.
