As pre warned, Mechanical storage is going up in price at an alarming rate.

This is unlikely to change before 2012 with price increases potentially going to increase by even more.

These are dark times on the storage front at the moment with deals none existant for some time to come :(

You may indeed be able to buy drives much cheaper elsewhere but they WILL run out of stock very quickly so my advice is that you buy where you can as you will not see affordable storage at all as current stocks deplete.

Your warning comes a little late.

You've increased the prices on drives you already have in stock.

The amount you've already paid for them hasn't increased so the increase would seem to be pure profit (plus VAT).

Stock is valued on a daily basis. Thats real time pricing.

I appreciate that what you're doing with "real time pricing" is bumping the price up based on anticipated future shortages and price rises.

I'm sure most businesses would do the same in similar circumstances.

On current stock though the increase is still pure profit based on the price you've already paid.

I agree. You'd sell a shed load if you kept previous prices. Just from people wanting to get a drive or 2 before the price increase. Bit naughty increasing prices that much on the fly

2 TB F4EG for £80 at OcUK or £65 elsewhere, hmm...

2 TB WD Green for £80 at OcUK or £61 elsewhere, double hmm...

Ill give an example.

If I bought Drive A at £25 last week it is now £48 today.

There no adjusting on the fly here I am affraid :(

Well thats the final nail in the coffin for me on this matter! Im sick of drives failing taking stuff out, sick of having to keep stripping machines down to get at drives and now with grey imports on top of everything im really thinking about giving up with computers for a long time.

So im assuming there will be no special offers this side of xmas?

I dont think there will be many if any at all. :(

Damn, need to pick up some 2tb disks.

Luckily I can still get the ST2000DL003 for 58 quid :)

I was going to get a Sammy 2TB drive, but the warning came too late and the price has already jumped. I'll sit on the fence for a few months and wait for prices to come down again.
