Creating this thread for people to post their line stats that are on the FTTC service.
This thread is to gauge line speed over distance and get a better understanding of FTTC (VDSL)

Does not matter if you are on the 8c or 17a profile all line stats are welcome.

for those of you that have not unlocked the BT modem yet (not HH3)

A MASSIVE thanks to asbokid for his work in unlocking the modem and providing the firmware.

Please make sure that you use the correct firmware the SP06 or SP10 will be written on the back of your modem.

Once unlocked there is a wealth of information and a few tweaks.

Best tweak is turning off QOS which gives a nice 1mbs boost on your upload speeds.

To get better stats than the GUI of the modem use Telnet, this must be enabled in the control panel/programs&features/turn windows features on or off.

Once in telnet type in 192.168.1.1

username:admin
Password:admin

type SH

xdslcmd info --pbParams

to see what profile you are on type

xdslcmd info --show

For those of you that are already on 17a and saved their 8c stats could you please post both.

I can confirm what Locky is saying about turning off QoS improving the upload speed.

With Qos enabled my maximum upload was 8.34Mbps. Since I disabled it has been -

Its defo worth unlocking the modem and only takes about 5 mins, really easy to do.

I've seen several people, including myself, installing SP10 over SP06 and haveing no problems.

If you have a spare ethernet port on your router you can connect a second ethernet cable to LAN2 and your router. You can then access the net and the modem at the same time.

Huawei have released the source code and manual for the modem. I'm yet to read the manual but it might contain some interesting stuff.

EDIT
Before and after disableing QOS, the before speed is now 0.2 higher than it was before I disabled QOS a few months ago, possibly due to being on 17a now.

Yeah but my modem is good 10 meters from my router, so laptop works for me. tbh I only really check the stats if there is an hiccup on my line.

Got my install yesterday! First thing was to ditch the HH3, install a Routerboard 750G in PPPoE mode. Also hacked the modem to get line stats.

I seem to have pretty high ping time on the UK, between 20 and 30+ms somehow.

Very nice stats, when I first got enabled I too was getting 48mbit attainable rate, so I would day your line is sub 200 meters at that snr, I think you will get 95-99mbit on the 17a profile with a 30+mbit upload.

Have you done the QOS tweak for faster upload?

FTTC is not about BT infinity, BT infinity is bt retails version of FTTC, there are lots of other providers that resell BT Wholesale FTTC product.
