Hi there

We've had numerous questions from customers and even complaints regarding Battlefield smoothness and performance on True HD Resolution and higher with high in-game detail settings. Wheras disabling Aero in Windows 7 does help it does not cure the problem.

We even had one customer with a pair of MARS cards with a DELL 30" unable to obtain smooth gameplay at 2560x1600 with maximum settings. As such we've being doing some internal testing and found some rather starkling results and one of our direct Graphics partners have also found the same results.

Before I say anymore check this out:-

560ti2gbvs1gb.jpg

Its quite self explanatory that a 2GB VRAM graphics card is a requirement for Battlefield 3 if your playing at resolutions of 1920x1080 or higher, especially with high detail settings.

What is scary is that a 2GB card is upto twice as fast as the equivalent 1GB card.

Releasing this information we deem vital to our customers to ensure they can make the correct purchasing decision, yes I can forsee us having major overstock issues with older 1GB cards, but we feel that customers need to know that going forward new modern games need more memory and 1GB cards simply don't cut it anymore if your planning on gaming at 1920x1080 or higher resolution.

Therefor I've also cut some great deals on 2GB versions of the 560Ti as well, which as can be seen offers some great performance in Battlefield 3. Here are our 560Ti 2GB deals, which remember a 560Ti with 2GB is faster than a 570 GTX 1280MB in Battlefield 3 and in some cases even quicker than a GTX 580 (smoothness/fluidity):-

Also remember the ATI 6950's and 6970 2GB cards also don't have any slowdown issues due to having a 2048MB of memory and a very efficient memory controller. If your a hardcore gamer the absolute best card money can buy now for Battlefield 3 is the 3GB GTX 580's which we have ample in stock off. :)

P.S. Take note how the game uses upto of 1800MB of VRAM Graphics memory even at just 1920x1080, hence why some customers are getting stuttering even on GTX 580's and the higher the resolution the more VRAM the game uses, hence 2GB is a minimum requirement we believe for Battlefield 3 if you wish to enjoy the game to its full potential. :)

Thanks for that !

But they are only two 560ti 2gb on offer ?

Yep, massive shortage on 2GB 560Ti's and also many are also very high price on them, but we got a great deal on the OcUK card at sub £200 Inc. VAT. :)

P.S. Just done a deal as well on OcUK 6950 2GB - ONLY £195.95 Inc. VAT!! :D :D :D

P.S.2. So from OcUK you can either buy a 2GB 560Ti or a 2GB 6950 for just £195.95 Inc. VAT - Think thats best price in the UK! :)

Pity the 2gb 560ti's werent that price when I was upgrading.

Would have been nice to change over from ATI to Nvidia. Not had an Nvidia GPU for ages now.

Maybe next gen :)

ive been saying it for ages now 1gb wont cut it in most of the newer games unless you dont mind turning aa off, it makes almost 0 sense to buy a 1gb card now, last year most games were only using around 800mb of memory with 4xaa @ 1080p
ths year most are hovering around 950-1gb+ next year its only likely to stay the same or go higher

thanks very much for showing these results!!

is there any chance you could test a bog standard 570 with 1.3gb to see how it stands against a 2gb 560ti?

That's quite the difference!

Ever think of running the same test only with a 1.5 and a 3GB 580? Just outa curiosity? :)

We've not had time, even though 1.5GB 580's do have DIPs they are not to a level enough to spoil the actual gameplay, though a 3GB would certainly offer improvement. :)

Here are our 560Ti 2GB deals, which remember a 560Ti with 2GB is faster than a 570 GTX 1280MB in Battlefield 3 and in some cases even quicker than a GTX 580 (smoothness/fluidity):-

Surely this is only the case at 1080p if trying to use 4xMSAA or higher? I have noticed no slowdown on my GTX 570 at 1080p Ultra settings and 2xMSAA, SSAO (instead of HBAO).

TIP: In addition to the Aero 7 fix Gibbo mentioned above, closing the web browser once the game has launched also frees up approx 100MB VRAM ;)

That's your problem...you've been saying it for "ages", and it is only "now" that it is start to become an issue. The release of the 28nm card is the perfect timing for upgrading to cards with more VRAM, 1 year ago at the launch of 6950/6970 2GB was not (I still remember the "lemon" thread people being upset about how the cards were not hugely faster than the previous gen GPU wise).. And I got the feeling the the result is a bit of benching for benching's sake, as I realistically, I seriously doubt people with just a single GTX560TI would be running on Ultra instead of High when on a 60 people map in BF3.

I agree with D13...that a test should be done on the GTX570 1.25GB, cause in majority of the case, while the 6970 2GB is as fast, if not faster than the GTX570 when at 1920 res 0xAA , BUT when AA is applied, the 6970 2GB actually loose MORE fps than the GTX570 1.25GB thus becoming slower than it, so I suspect that GPU architecture and its relation to the amount of VRAM has larger on impacting on performance, and not so much of a VRAM "one size fit all" case. As far as I see, the GF100/GF110 suffer much lesser performance hit when AA is applied, comparing to GF104/GF114 and 6950/6970 2GB. Also, the system used for the test, does it has 4GB ram or 8GB ram?

Nobody doubt that it's benefitual to have more VRAM, but is spending this amount of money on 2GB cards that are soon becoming old tech a good idea, except for someone that absolutely can't wait for the release of 28nm cards? That is the question.

Well I'm peaved. I just upgraded to a 560Ti Oc 1gb - had nothing but problems until I purchased another 4gb of ram, which helped - but I'm still having issues. Wish I had of waited a few weeks now :(

If I SLI my 560Ti Oc 1gb, will they share the VRAM across the cards?

If not, tempted to sell my card and buy another... *sigh*

i dont think the question is which is better 1gb vs 2g, obviously 2gb is preferential the question is how much (if anything) should you pay for that extra?

i think its great to conduct and share these results, but the only problem i have with them is that this is multiplayer (so these cards did not undergo an identical run through to get these results) and would these tests be susceptical to lag issues affecting frame rate?

Also the average is 35 and minimum 11fps, in a fps multiplayer (i can only speak for myself) but that is really too slow, personally i would turn down the settings aiming for an average of 60 at elast.

In this instance at (whatever those settings may be) how would the two cards compare then?

SLI duplicates anything in the VRAM, so you'll still only have 1GB

I have 1GB 5850s cards and HAD 4GB of RAM. I got the stuttering. Upgraded to 8GB of RAM and now silky smooth around 60 - 70fps (never below 60fps). Looks like the RAM is sharing with the VRAM. So if you have a 1GB card, make sure you have at least 8GB of RAM and you'll be set. Mind you I don't have any FSAA on just 16AA.

Also some people stated sharing VRAM with RAM is much much slower... well it's not as my FPS never goes below 60fps.

580 1.5GB is fine for 1080 all ultra, playable and smooth at 50-60 fps on 64p CQ mode, Though I do run it at all ultra settings except I use 2xAA instead of 4xAA which brings Vram usage down to 1.35-1.4GB from 1.5-1.7gb with 4xAA.

Using more VRAM when available doesn't always mean the game "needs" more VRAM to maintain reasonable performance. The few games which I think you are refering to, a single GPU graphic card that has 1GB model won't deliver playable frame rate at max setting regardless of the VRAM anyway (i.e. a single 6950 2GB won't make frame rate much better than a 6950 1GB in Metro2033 or Shogun 2, as both would be the same low unplayable frame rate anyway due to lack of raw power).
