I am on the lookout for a new monitor with the view of upgrading to dual displays at a later date.

I currently use LG 23" Monitors at work and love them, but just seen the prices of the current Dell Ultrasharp displays and am very tempted.

At the moment, the Dell U2312HM is £199.99 whereas the U2412M is £239.99 on this weeks special offers.

Is it worth the extra £40 to get the extra inch and extra pixels on the U2412M?

What are your thoughts?

Hi there,

Here is an in-depth review that compares the U2312HM to the the U2412M.

Overall the two monitors perform very similarly - with the 23in having the slight edge in responsiveness and input lag.

However, the U2412HM is a fair bit bigger (24in 16:10 is a fair bit bigger than 23in 16:9 in terms of screen area - see here), the extra vertical resolution is often very useful in apps and games alike, plus the motion performance really isn't much worse than the 23in - so I would personally go with the U2412M (especially considering that price).

For just an extra £40 I'd defiantly get the 16:10 U2412M, I actually own the U2312M but it isn't my day to day monitor so I can't really comment on it in depth. As cmdr_andi mentions reviews are very similar and I'd doubt very much that you'd notice the input lag differences with them next to each other, so it's nothing really to worry about.

16:10 plus an inch bigger for just £40 extra is a bargain in my book.

I've got 2 2312HM's and they are cracking monitors, I went for the 2312 over the 2412 as I run my PS3 through one as well as the PC - on the 2412 the PS3 image would be stretched, no such problem on the 2312.

I currently have one DGM 24" (PVA).
I bought two of these yesterday, will I see some differences between these and the DGM or is it just a waste of money (still have opportunity to cancel).
(Primarily gaming/browsing etc etc).

EDIT: Also is there really much of a difference between these and say 120Hz monitors?

Took delivery this morning of 2 x U2412M (upgraded from NEC 20WGX2), very nice screens and the extra vertical resolution is a nice improvement, moving up from 1680x1050.

Anti-glare coating is noticeable (compared to glossy NEC!) but not a problem for me at all.
