'NVIDIA Engaged in PsyOps Against HD 7970: Chinese Forum

A lot has been said about NVIDIA's upcoming product with which it will compete against AMD's Radeon HD 7900 series, except of course, pictures, benchmarks, and so on. Chinese tech forum ChipHell accused NVIDIA of deploying shills across forums to shape public opinion about the already-launched HD 7900 series, towards waiting for NVIDIA's competitive product, these include blind talk about imaginary performance superiority, killer price, etc.

Chinese forums have recognized patterns in this spurt of anti-AMD and pro-HD 7970 imaginary-competitor product posts and banned scores of user accounts engaged in this activity. There's a very potent reason why ChipHell's observations shouldn't be met with cynicism, or made light of. In China, competing factions in the ever-ruling Communist party have been known to use what is known as "the 50 cent army", where for a pittance, scores of internet forum posters can be engaged to perform coordinated PsyOps, to shape public opinion, and maintain public support. It is only natural, then, that competing companies in the extremely competitive Chinese domestic market resort to similar tactics, including those distributing NVIDIA GeForce graphics cards, or, as Chip Hell alleges, NVIDIA itself.'

Apologies if this has already been posted.

Business is business, Amd would possibly do the same thing imo.

Why is this news? :P both companies have been doing this for years, ATI to a lesser extent afaik but AMD, Intel and nVidia haven't been shy of doing it.

Its news because almost all the great stuff we have been hearing is false ie the great prices for 7970 performance. It could still come true but most of the info we knew came from these sources.

Well this article sounds like a psyop in itself because it leads everyone to believe that everything heard recently about NVidia's new GPUs is a lie, which may not be the case.

Yea, we have known about this stuff for ages.

JF_AMD is AMD's version while xsistor and 555BUK are Nvidia's. AMD taking the more open(source) approach as usual :D

It's all speculation, so I don't know where you get the idea there may be some truth to it. It should be assumed that all information is fake or treated as dubious.

Then again, the number of fans blinded by their loyalties means that it's hard to recognise the shills. I look forward to seeing what nVidia has to offer but won't believe any of it until I see reviews from respectable sites. If a release is imminent I'll hold off any purchase to see if it offers better value but you can keep waiting month after month. You have to bite at some point.

Bored of £450 quid hardware to throw pixels about.

Its the wrong time economically and the perfromance is not earth shattering

Can you get better for less? I know what your saying but its not as if this paying a premium for marginal higher performance is a new thing it's been going on since the days of the Geforce Ti500. Personally I more put out by the fact that AMD and Nvidia seem to price there SKU's deliberately to avoid competing with each other hence why prices on video cards have barely moved since last year.

As for this idea that a handful of posters can 'shape public opnion'. Rubbish. People who buy this kind of gear are generally intelligent, educated and know how to go about finding out just how good a particular piece of hardware is and where the value can be found.

A huge number of computer component punters are anything but intelligent, educated or sensible. Superstition, tired rhetoric and misinformed opinion reign supreme :D

I have posted nothing about NV as I know very liitle

I post my opinion on 7970 as its overpriced last gen performance at silly pricing.

Even the 7950 @ 350 is a joke.

The 7970 is newer generation than anything Nvidia have, it beats anything Nvidia has, and you're clearly butthurting right now, derp. < My opinion btw.
