Hey all. Over the next few weeks I am gonna be previewing, reviewing and generally having a good time (thrashing) seeing what the new Maximus V Gene Z77 chipset board can do. I will be building on this post nearly everyday adding new information and benchmarks as I go. All forum members please do chip in and ask for any tests you want to see. Iniially I will be showing this Z77 chipset based board with current CPU's and as soon as NDA is over with new CPU technology. I am pleaaed to say evan with current CPU's this board has pushed my limits up interms of both mhz and timings on both RAM and CPU. Its amazingly good at clocking 4 DIMM configuations a problem with previous chipset 1155 boards. Most of the testing I have done so far with the board has been with the new gen CPU's and only a couple of hours thus far have been spent on past gen. I will endeavour to add benchmark results for the current generation CPU's namely 2700K ASAP. Bios updates by the day are keeping me busy with further testing, but each one is yielding better and better clocking, stability and performance results. Thanks to Shamino for his excellent work with this and the support he has offered me.

Common componnents Used for all testing:
M5G (various Bios)
Antec HCP 1200w PSU
GSkill RAM 16gb (4x4gb) currently 2133mhz 9-11-10-28 2T Kit with higher rated stuff on the way!!!!
2 x ASUS 7970 watercooled with Koolance blocks in Xfire
120gb Corsair GT SSD
EK and Koolance CPU waterblocks (Thanks to *Don't mention competitors* for supplying the watercooling!!!!)
Water Chiller set to 16C so as to give results that others could replicate.

Ok lets start with some pics of the board its self:

Chipset Heat SInk, SATA Ports 4 Intel Ports 2 are 6gb, 2 ASmedia both are 6 Gb, 24 Pin Power, Go Button, LN2 Jumper!!! Again familiar but essential ROG stuff!!!

Robust VRM heatsink, that I must say does not get too hot at all evan with high power delivery!!!

ASUS 7970 Crossfire,, Standard 2 slot spacing.

Power and Reset are easy to reach at the base of the board along with standard USB and Audio headers

Comprehensive Pics of the extensive overclocking settings within Bios will be up next!!!!!!! This Bios is a system and memory tweakers heaven!!!

Familiar??? It should be if your a ROG UEFI user of the recent past.

Extensive Voltage Control!!!

Further Voltage tweaks and Essential skew setting for BLK clocking!!! also the BLK recovery setting which means if you push the BLK to far and the system wont boot teh bios automatically recovers the system by returning BLK to 100.0!!!

Digi Power Sub menu.

More memory tweaking options than ever seen before!!! High clocks and high performance its all in here!!!

There is also many more RAM preset timings for different IC's and configurations of RAM. All the popular clockers RAM is covered

Here we go then more presets than ever and they are sooooooooo useful I pulled out some old sticks of tight timings stuff for some benchies and the profile worked flawlessly staable and very very fast. Maybe more of this type of presets on R4E please Shamino.

This weekends 2700K results are below. I am seeing what it can do with all 4 Dimm slots loaded with 4gb. This is so I can show the upgrade potential of the board for current CPU owners. The stability was unquestionable evan with all four slots heavily loaded something which cant be said for many other 1155 boards. All these tests are still on water cooling and truly attainable by your average user. The auto settiings in the Bios especially for memory settings make this a dream to get operating stable and to tune. Remember guys this is on a very early bios too infact since I did these tests Shamino has sent me two other Bios to test both of which offer new facilities and improvements in stability. The 3D benches are with two ASUS 7970 installed and again evan with this graphics fire power in Crossfire the board was rock stable with 4 dimms populated. The Prime stability shots are large FFT's all the settings used passed one hour memtest test 5 also in DOS.

5ghz, DDR 2222 , 16gb Prime stable

5ghz, DDR2222, 16gb AIDA stability stable.

5.1ghz 16gb Prime stable

5.1ghz 16gb AIDA stability stable

5.2 ghz Prime stable, 16gb.

5.2 ghz AIDA stability stable.

5ghz 16gb Aida Memory benchmark

5.1ghz 16gb Aida memory!

5.2ghz 16gb Aida memory!

Unigen 2.5 ( using overclockers presets) ;) Two 7970!!!

3D mark Vantage High and Xtreme Presets.

3D mark 11 Performance and Xtreme Presets

And just for the sake of it Pi 1mb with 16gb loaded on water.

Any more tests you guys want to see let me know and feel free to comment on these results. As you can see this board is simply solid as a rock evan with all its slots packed to the brim and on early bios. Role on NDA lifting ;)

Interesting stuff :) Tempted to get one of these to replace my Gene-Z. Are you you able to get those clocks with that CPU on another board? Also, what are your temps like while running something like IBT on max with 8 threads?

I am able to get the clocks yes on CPU. But not on 16gb RAM at high clocks. This board is rock stable with all 4 slots populated and running very high DRAM speeds. With new gen CPU you will be amazed what this little fellar can do!!! AIDA is about 2c - 3c off AVX enabled Linx which I use which is the same as IBT. I have shown AIDA screen shots so for 5.1ghz around 61 C on top core and at 5.2ghz around 66 C. I did some runs of Linx also as you can see its on the desktop but this preview / review is for ASUS ROG website and users on there say they find Prime Large FFT and AIDA as better true full system stability tests. Feell free to ask me any questions mate I have tested this board hard and can offer support too.

Well it does 5ghz with several CPU yes. I had a 2500K at 5.55+ghz Linx stable the other day for a challenge on XS this was with full dimm population (16gb)above 2133mhz+ at 9-11-10-28-1T. This board really is the don for clocking DRAM as well as CPU. The pre-sets are excellent and performance with Ivy and its strong IMC unbelievable.

Do you need the extra PCI EX slots mate??? because if not this board is remarkable value for money and is a truly great clocker. Obviously if your going 3 way etc then the formula or Xtreme is the way to go.

As you can see TwsT its a very competant board evan with every slot populated, stable as a rock on beta bios!!!

Got me sold mate got me sold some great clocks there you have a pretty sweet chip by the looks of it.

waiting for the ivy bridge cpu's to launch then I will popping my Gene and 2500k onto the members market and switching over :)

I've had no problems with my Gene-z and 2500k at 4.4 1.34V 16gb ddr3 1600 @ 1.55V and sli 460's (now a single 680)

I just couldn't clock my 2500k to 5 under 1.5 with so 16gb memory so i didn't bother and settled for a cool and quiet 4.4

Hi nice post

would you recommend this board instead of full atx v-pro

i will be using mostly single gpu may be sli in the future

Thx

Yes I would totally recomend it. I have had it running with both GTX580 3gb SLI and 7970 Crossfire with 2700K and Ivy CPU works great. The overclocking from this board is truly excellent. Dont be fooled this board is small is size yes, but it was designed by Shamino the legend Overclocker. Most of Team Pure the guys who hold all the records for overclocking are testing it. This is True ROG on the lines of the Rampage series. The latest Beta Bios I have enables similar DRAM clocks with full population and 1T command rate!!!! ;)
