Recently got myself a motherboard that has USB 3.0. I have installed the drivers etc and plugged my 8gb Patriot USB 3.0 stick into the USB 3.0 port. Even when transferring a large single file I am getting really poor speeds like 6mb/s.

Any ideas people?

It's all down to the controller of the flash on the USB. It's like SATA, the max bandwidth of SATA 3.0 is 6Gb/s, but do you ever see any HDD's anywhere close to that speed?

I've tried both the USB 3.0 slots...

Cannot for the life of me fathom out what is wrong.

Edit: To add to this I am transferring from a SSD as well so it's not like a HDD is bottlenecking the transfer speed.

Were the drivers from the CD? Or did you download the latest from the website for the mobo?

I had a weird problem on a i5 build where the USB3 ports weren't working in the OS at all. I had to uninstall the drivers the guy had used from the cd and updated them from the website. This solved the issue although was odd as he had installed everything from the supplied software CD....so it should have been fine

Manufacturer's specs. do tend to be the absolutely perfect circumstances figures.

I own a 32GB Corsair Flash Voyager USB 3.0.

The manufacturer spec. is a maximum 40MB/s write speed.

Fortunately I get around 30MB/s in the real world which isn't too bad.

Can't seem to find a PCIe setting in the bios so cant check whether it's at 100mhz :/ Motherboard is gigabyte z68ap-d3

Isn't that one of those USB sticks that are advertised as USB 3 meaning they support USB 3?
It doesn't mean it will benefit from faster speeds. Aren't the read/write speeds still very low in the product description?

Or is it one of the premium ones supporting proper USB 3 speeds?

Drivers are new ones from gigabyte website.

I know I won't get the advertised USB 3 speeds but 4-6mb/s is slower than USB 2.

As you have a Sandy Bridge system the PCI-E bus is linked to the Base Clock (as are many other things).

As long as you haven't changed the Base Clock from 100MHz then the PCI-E clock will be fine.

Yeah maybe it's just this drive. Patriot or OCUK don't advertise the speeds so its probably got a rubbish flash controller on it.
