Radeon HD 7970GE OC @ 1160/7160
GeForce GTX 680 OC @ 1150/7000
GeForce GTX 770 OC @ 1200-1300/7500
GeForce GTX 780 OC @ 1150/7000
GEFORCE GTX TITAN OC @ 1080-1180/6700

The test was performed on one of the most powerful to date gaming configurations based on Intel Core i7-3970X with its overclocked to 4.9 GHz, 16 GB of DDR3 memory with a frequency of 2133 MHz and a hard disk SSD OCZ Vertex 3.

40 MHz wouldn't have made much difference anyway. A FPS or two if you're lucky.

What is interesting for me is that the talk of a 7970 OC being close to a 780 was just completely false and that the 770 OC and 7979 OC trade blows with neither clearly winning.

As rusty has said the brand new 770 is trading blows with the year + old 7950 (sorry meant 7970) at the same price point. Great...

Really is this the best nvidia can do at this price? No wonder AMD aren't in a hurry to produce the 8*** series.

It is trading blows with the 7970GE and not the 7950 and the important thing is the price is on par with the 7970GE and for anyone wishing to upgrade from an older system, they now have a good choice for either AMD or Nvidia.

Free games with AMD and PhysX with Nvidia. Not a bad choice for either.

The fastest stock 7970 is quicker then that while the ltg be is only a few mhz behind at stock

Performance is close in that 780 stock/7970 oc/770 oc area.

The main point is its only matching a year plus old gpu at the same price point.

I don't think that will bother anyone who wants to choose between the two

They can always go for the GTX 780 if their funds allow or even the Titan if they want the fastest single core card. Pricey, but that is down to personal funds and what the purchaser can justify spending.

The 7950 was a typing mistake, changed now.

Price is the issue. To be releasing a card that only matches year old tech and still be no cheaper is entirely the issue. At best you could hope that drivers may improve. New cards at the same price point should be quicker. People should be annoyed with these offerings.

My concern is now that AMD will look at nvidia's pricing/performance and think "hey people are willing to pay the same money for no improvement, and a ridiculous premium for small performance gains. We'll have some of that."

Awaits the 8*** series with some trepidation.

The 770 is a rebadged 680 with new memory chips. It's not exactly been hidden that that is the case.

Right, the only difference between the GTX 680 and GTX 770 is the GTX 680 has 1500Mhz memory while the GTX 770 has 1750Mhz memory.
They are the new higher 1750Mhz rated memory IC's

It equates to a performance increase of about 5% at stock.
In overclocking it depends if those memory IC's are also capable of overclocking that 12% higher, I don't know if they do, do they?

The HD 8000 will also get those higher rated IC's, lets hope that's not all they get.

Hmm, cant understand why they haven't overclocked the GTX770 memory from stock in those tests, its good for 8000 in most cases.

Unless im mistaken the memory was running at 1875mhz, an overclock of 125mhz.
