So here it is then, the 40th anniversary Mitsubishi Evo X. And, as we perhaps all expected, there are plenty of very large numbers associated with it (and small ones where servicing is concerned, but we'll come to that).

FQ-440 for those who found 400 a bit tardyAppropriately enough, the 40th anniversary special totes 440bhp (446hp or 328kw) produced at 6,800rpm. There's also 412lb ft of torque at 3,100rpm. A host of trick components feature to get that much from a 2.0-litre turbo, including 'motorsport specification' high-flow injectors, a new HKS turbo, an intake, intercooler and exhaust from Janspeed plus tweaks to the ECU.
Mitsubishi has also confirmed the FQ-440 will use the six-speed SST dual-clutch gearbox unavailable on the 400. Mitsubishi hasn't disclosed any tweaks made to handle the increased power and torque.
Other upgrades include Alcon brakes all round with six-piston calipers up front, forged 18-inch BBS wheels and Eibach springs that lower the Evo by 35mm at the front and 30mm at the rear. Don't forget the 'PIAA motorsport silicone windscreen wiper blades' too. Seriously.

Recaro leather seats, a Rockford Fosgate stereo with eight speakers and a sub (natch), a plethora of airbags and a sat nav. There aren't any pics of the interior but expect it be largely similar to all other Evo Xs.
There is something new though, and rather disconcerting; a data recorder connected via the onboard diagnostic system. It records driving style, performance and location, then will be available to the owner as well as Mitsubishi UK. Moreover, the fitment and recording of data from the device is mandatory for the warranty. Blimey. You think Mitsubishi expects these Evos to be driven hard?
White is the only colour available for the FQ-440 and each of the 40 coming here will cost a nice round £50,000. Don't forget to budget for servicing too, with a 1,000-mile oil change required and then another service every six months or 4,500 miles. Some things never change...
