Contender for Scythe Gentle Typhoon replacements?

I would be interested in anyones views on these. The red & black would look great in my ROG themed build. I currently have 5 GT's on a 240 and an external 360 and they are fantastic, but they do look a little bit boring! But if these perform anywhere close to the GT's then it might be worth looking in to, at least for my 240 internal rad. I control my fans from the motherboard anyway and I never have the fans running at even 50%, so a max speed of 1200rpm wouldn't be a problem. Be interested to see how these compare at 1200rpm to the GT's at 1200rpm though!

They look nice, though i would guess that the 120's will lose the performance comparison when compared with the favourite 120mm rad fans. The 140 are probably up there among the top 140 rad fans but who wants a 140mm radiator :p

Need someone to take the leap and test these out as rad fans - would like to know if these would be a good replacement for the much missed king of fans Scythe GT's.

I'm not convinced that the blade design is anything special in terms of static pressure tbh.
Look at it next to a Spectre and there's barely any difference.

Not saying they'll be crap or anything, and they do look nice.

I tried the Enermax TB silence and they do the job.
I know the static pressure could be a bit higher, but then PWM version does go up to 1.6.
I am going to use the low rpm version push/pull on ek pe rads, will let you know how they perform.

Will not be long till I try the akasa piranha's which wrote recommended to me on sale by other forum members. I always did l the GT's preformed well in my last build.

judging by the specs they are not great for static pressure.

ocuk's golf fans destroy them in that aspect going of the figures. having said that there is a 800rpm difference.

they need to up the speed of them

Those fans are noisy though lol, the only way to run them if you're sane is on a controller turned all the way down, so that static figure wont hold true @600-800rpm.

@OP I've ordered 3 for my AMD rig i'm building, got a free day on Wednesday, if they've come by then i'll compare against my GTs.

Hero.

The official way to test how effective they are is to tape them onto toy cars and race them vs each other.

I will be expecting pictures, diagrams, videos with intense commentary and slow motion finishes.

NB eLoops :)

MartinsLiquidLab does a very extensive research on fan and NB eLoops are just as good as GTs.

I had some of those for a build for somebody else recently - had to send them back as they were horrendously noisy - even on a fan controller. Don't know if the ones I got were faulty, but ......

Need to get two 120mm fans ordered I have just been using typhoons up until now but now swapping a 240 for a 480 rad so need two more fans.

Any ideas on what to order?

Swiftech Helix 120s are supposed to be a contender for GTs. They certainly look similar withe the curving fan blades that are good for static pressure.

I love the NB eloops also but a lot of complaints about them in pull config.

Did you place the NB eLoops in the push position instead of pull onto a radiator?

That will make a significant difference due to the aerodynamics of the fan.

Testing now :O
they look nice, are bloody noisy at 1200rpm, somewhat inaudible at 800rpm. I'd say just as silent as the GTs at 800, but a lot louder at 1200.

I don't think my tests will show much tbh, I can't make my rig pull much more than 300w and I fell my single 360 is too much for that :(

Just about to change fans to the GTs now, temp difference for these fans is 3c....that's between 1200/800.

Edit: just went in with the testing at 800, nobody wants to listen to fan noise, the GTs @800rpm almost as good as these DS fans @1200 :o. Same ambient temp all the way through.

I do feel my testing isn't fair on either fan though, as my rig just doesn't pull enough wattage to overwhelm my rad. What I should do is test in P/P on a h80 or something.
