DirectX 11 doesn't officially support multi-GPU. It doesn't prevent you from doing it, but it doesn’t help you do it. All the multi-GPU you’ve ever encountered have been robust and clever workarounds by IHVs and ISVs alike.

All of this changes in DirectX 12 with a new feature called “explicit multi adapter,” which brings more performance and flexibility to multi-GPU configurations than at any other point in the history of DirectX.

Bad time to be posting about AMD multi gpu support, no?

Hopefully when DX12 comes around me won't have the delays and issues of current.

DX12 seems to put a lot of control in the hands of the developers. Given how often we see games released with issues that are then fixed by workarounds in the GPU driver, does this mean we're going to be getting a few years of broken games that AMD & Nvidia can't fix until all the developers get their heads around coding for the different GPUs properly? Or does DX12 still provide enough of a layer that coding issues by the developer can be fixed by a third party (AMD/Nvidia/MicroSoft?) as and when they occur?

I know it's probably just a case of time will tell, but wondered if I'd got this wrong in my head. At the moment it feels like we're removing all the driver aids in the car and expecting all drivers to be able to go faster without crashing! :D

If I was a betting man I'd say that the 290-series is going to be very strong when Win10/DX12 is released. It'll make the 980's look closer to the 960

But that's just a semi-educated guess tbh, just hope I'm right for competitions sake :)

If this works properly and drivers work just like single cards, I may finally try out crossfire. Sounds promising. But drivers AMD, need drivers to work and be released consistently and certainly be ready for big game releases like Witcher 3!

So DX12 will make CF obsolete, since it'll do everything instead? Also if the memory thing is true... then the whole 3.5GB GTX970 thing will be a problem of the past for folks who SLI it. But I see AMD APUs really benefitting here, the processor graphics will actually be usable.

So will this take the burden off of AMD and put it onto the game developers to implement multi GPU's?

If new drivers are still needed every game for crossfire then I'd really be embarrassed to be posting this when your current support has been so poor lately.
