The reasoning being, the i7 6700HQ is a more than powerful enough CPU for myself whilst having great low power requirements. I've gone with the 980M 8GB as in benchmarks/games it has being proven to be the better choice over the 4GB counterpart even at 1080/1440P resolution, but as I am powering a 4k panel the 8GB might come in handly, though realistically a 980M is not powerful enough to play all the games at maximum eye candy at 4k. My reasoning for the 4k panel is simply because I shall be using this laptop mainly for work and as such the higher resolution panel comes in very handy when doing image work and working in spreadsheets where I find 1080P is simply not enough.

With 16GB of DDR4 memory and 256GB PCI-e storage everything should be pretty instant and upgrading to 32GB is easy a long with greater storage though I feel 256Gb and 1TB is more than ample.

I also like Gigabyte simply because it is a gaming laptop which also at the same time looks professional and is ideal for business usage as well.

I shall be using it to power a 24" 1080P, 34" 1440P and at home a 1080P 40" TV so shall feedback how good its HDMI/DP and scaling is.

Once I have it I shall do a full writeup but on paper it seems perfect and am lucking forward to getting it in the next couple of weeks.

I went with the P35X version to keep things mobile as possible, when I am travelling abroad it is far easier to carry around a 15.6" notebook which weighs around 2.5kg with charger rather than a heavier and larger 17.3" unit.










Asus new range of Skylake laptops should be appearing on our website also in the next few weeks as well but Asus are a little slower to market with their new Skylake range, we are also looking at the new Acer Predator Skylake range of laptops as well.

Any news when no idea will release the mobile 980 gibbo I'm on the verge of buying one with 980 and gsync don't won't it be out of date in a months time.

We can confirm: SSD is M.2 PCIe - this is correct in the spec you mentioned for P35W v5-CF1

Some models will have 4K screens, again these are listed in the models that have been set up:

We can also confirm: USB 3.1 type C - YES

DDR4 ram - YES (this is listed correctly on the models that are live for pre-order)

HDMI 2- YES

Other features such as the ambient sensor backlit keyboard are on all the V5 models of P35 and P37.

Hi mrpetrov,

The weight is slightly wrong for the AORUS X3 V5, it should be listed as 1.8KG.

I cant tell you what contributes to the weight difference between the AORUS and MSI models, obviously the additional 3GB of vRAM will make some contribution to this. The AORUS is housed in full aluminium chassis, again not sure on MSI chassis.

Regarding 6gb vRAM, Vs 3gb vRAM:

Basically you will get far better graphics performance, especially with high res screens.

Many thanks for the quick response, Gigabyte and Overclockers have themselves a pre-order for the P35W v5

I'm trying to decide between the x3 v5 and the new p35. Basically, is the 980 worth the extra weight/size. Is there anywhere in central London I can (or can soon) touch a p35 (esp. One of the new ones) - I would still order it from ocuk, I just want to see how much bigger it is (I already have an older x3)?

there is a showroom display in Selfridges Oxford street, they have a P35W v4 (chassis is the same as v5) and they also have AORUS X3, X5 and X7,,,,

A magnesium alloy is used in the GS series which reduces weight, the VRAM chips weigh around a gram so that's not going to change the weight lol.

Basically you will get far better graphics performance, especially with high res screens.

But not the first part, in the other test where both are below 30 fps (and so not really playable) you are still at 2048x1152 (2359296/2073600 = 13.7% higher than the stock resolution of both machines).

So again I ask where are the benchmarks showing a "far better graphics performance" at 1080p where the settings are enough to give a 40-60fps experience (which is where you need to be really to get a proper experience).

I think it was more than 3GB that was needed. In theory a 4GB card would do the job but they step from 3 to 6GB. Although 4GB is even a bit borderline.

Whats the battery life like on the Aorus x3 plus v5?

Is there a possibility of releasing a touch screen version?

Does anyone have an idea when we'll see some reviews of the new gigabyte V5s? As well as the MSI GS60?

Gibbo can you give us a write up of the P35X? Especially about how loud it is and how hot it can get!

Hi Meaker,

The original question was raise about AORUS X3, which does have high res panel.

The presentation posted gives details of the nearest comparison we have, where we tested our QHD panel on P35W model, against the 4k MSI GS60, clearly showing that for a 4K screen, you need more than the supplied 3GB of vRAM, for the machine to deliver the quality to the screen.

IE: the Gigabyte 3K spec is going to deliver for the user, rather than being a "better" (?) headline spec, that actually cannot perform as you may expect.

3rd slide (p2 in bottom left corner of image) shows that for standard FHD, 3GB vRAM is just about sufficient, and states this in the text box.

But again @ Gigabyte we aim to give customers value by providing the headroom of an additional 3GB vRAM, supplying all of our high end P35 machines with 6GB of vRAM for our GTX970m models (P35W and P37W), and 8GB vRAM in our GTX980m models (P35X and P37X).

The performance difference when just powering FHD screen, is only slight, about 2% improvement on FPS on a 6GB vS 3GB - but every small improvement gives a better experience, we are sure you would agree.

However, the REAL tangible benefits of the 6GB vRAM on a FHD model, would be when user wants to output to external display. Our Mini Display port will support 4K @ 60Hz and HDMI 2.0 also supports 4K @ 60Hz...

If your machine was only equipped with 3GB vRAM then the performance graphs above (in previous post) would again become reality.

Hope that further clarifies the message we are trying to get across.
