After years of using Samsung phones the "Recently Used Apps" menu is still dumb as hell

It's something that's impossible to get used to because it makes zero sense.

I open eBay app... then I swipe up from the bottom to minimise it.
I open the Gallery app to temporarily check a picture... press back button to CLOSE it
I open Chrome browser
Now I want to go back to eBay so I access "Recently Used Apps" but see this:

Chrome <<< Gallery <<< eBay

Then I realise there 20 other apps there just piling up....

Why can't there be an option to switch this useless menu to "Currently Open Apps" so I can switch from eBay to Chrome back and forth without apps that I want to CLOSE such as Gallery piling up in between?

There also needs to be an option to properly CLOSE an app without having to go to "Recently Used Apps" and swiping them upwards which actually does close them.

For example HOLD BACK BUTTON TO CLOSE APP.

All of these things were available to me on my modded Note 3 back in 2014 so it's frustrating having to deal with inferior software design over a decade later.
