I think that’s the fourth time someone has replied with this now.

So we live in a society where you just don’t believe anyone and assume the worst? The situation is never going to improve then.

The percentage of people pretending to be police is minuscule in comparison to genuine call-outs.

We live in a very different society to those in the US, especially if you live in a little English village where crime is barely a thing.

Im willing to bet you might have a somewhat different attitude if you had been brought up in Florida, lived in the hood, been surrounded by gun culture your entire life and were aware that a common tactic for crooks forcing entry into houses is by pretending to be police.

Im not saying everyone in his position would have done the same as him (with regard to bringing the gun to the door) but it's easier to understand why someone might do that when you look at it from the perspective of an American rather than a Brit.

Florida is not Lickey End :p

It’s not that common at all. Pretty much 99.9% of the time if someone says they’re police then they will be.

If you think it’s a potential armed robbery then I certainly wouldn’t be opening the door for them. Let them force entry and start popping off once they’ve trespassed.

It doesn't have to be an everyday occurrence for one to be suspicious enough to bring a gun to the door with them though. The average middle-class American doesn't get robbed in their lifetime yet many of them still feel the need to own a gun and will bring that gun with them to the front door if people start banging on their door late at night.

America is a deeply paranoid nation, sometimes with good reason.

Owning a gun and taking it to the door with you in your hand is a bit different.

Yes, the paranoia seems to be an issue on both sides, with people assuming the worst and going from zero to a hundred real fast.
