They have dropped the max price for vehicles on the scheme to £25,000.

I don't see what the point in changing the limit is. Whether or not the vehicle costs £25k or £40k, the cost to the taxpayer is exactly the same. It's the disabled customer who pays the extra.

Other changes include no nominated drivers under 21, nominated drivers must live within 5 miles of the disabled person and under 25's can only drive up to a max of insurance category 16 vehicles.

Just reading the comments on the Daily Mail website. Quite saddening to read some of the jealousy and bitterness aimed towards disabled people.

I actually do think it's a step in the right direction as well.

I actually have a motability vehicle myself as I receive DLA for serious heart and spinal issues. I obviously follow these stories as many genuinely disabled people on the congenital heart defect forum I go on are getting quite paranoid that the fraudsters activities could end up leading to total abolition of the scheme.

But as I say, I agree with the changes, as long as people who may need more specialist vehicles for wheelchairs and scooters are still catered for (which i'm sure they will be).

As far as i'm concerned, if you can use a normal car, and something like a Titanium X Mondeo is not good enough for you, then you are greedy beyond comprehension.

Basically people who cannot get around are paid the higher rate mobility allowance by the DWP. It is about £55 a week. If they so wish, instead of recieving this money, they can use it to lease a car of their choice. Some cars are quite expensive and require a non refundable deposit. Basically, Motability purchase the car you choose from the dealer and you lease it off them.

So for this £55 a week, you get a car, insurance for 2 people, maintenance, windscreens, tyres and RAC cover. Vehicle tax is usually provided to disabled poeple even if they do not have a motability vehicle.

You have this car for 3 years. It then goes back to motability and you can choose another.

Why are people on benefits driving round in twenty-five grand cars, when I've worked for twenty years and am driving round in a two grand focus?

Because they have life altering disabilities and have no chance of having the chance to work towards owning their own car.

Does this mean they shouldn't have the chance to drive?

Anyway, this arguments been done to death. They get it, live with it.
