No voices with headphones

Hi all,

I've just been setting up my new computer and have come across a very strange issue. Whenever I watch any video, on chrome for example, I can't hear any voices when i'm listening through my headphones. Listening through the standard speakers is fine, but with headphones they're either gone completely or replaced with some garbled mess.

I'm using the built in sound on my Gigabyte Z170XP-SLI motherboard, and the Realtek HD Audio Manager that was installed with the drivers. I've been reading around and it says that there is a karaoke mode that removes the voices, but from what I can see that is disabled already.

Has anyone else had this problem, and can shed some light on how to sort it?

They are Gioteck ones that I originally got for use with my PS4, but had been using them with my old PC with no problem. I've just read on their website though that because they have a built in mic that when using them with a computer that has separate green and pink jacks you need to get a splitter.

Could that be the problem? As they are headphones and a mic in one, that just plugging them into the headphone jack doesn't work?

I've tried it in all the ports in the back, with most of them I don't get any sound out at all. When I plug it into what the software identifies as a general speaker port, I get sound when I test it within that software, but then nothing anywhere else
