I've several old PC parts here and I'm choosing which to keep and which to get rid off, I've enough to make a full system.

1) Asrock Z87 Extreme3 (with an i5 4670)

2) MSI B75A G41 (with an i5 3570)

I know very little about motherboards, which of those would you keep if you had to choose one? They will be coupled with a GTX 1660 and 16GB DDR3 GSkill Ram.

Thanks.

Keep 1) without a doubt - it's a generation newer and the motherboard was a higher end model.

There are also cheap Xeon processors available that fit that socket that are equivalent to the i7 models you could get

More info please, which processors specifically could I be looking at for the Z87 that better my current 4670?

I7:
4770, 4770k, 4790, 4790k

Xeon E3 V3:
1230v3, 1231v3, 1240v3, 1241v3, 1245v3, 1270v3, 1271v3

Those are the main ones, although a quick look suggests the Xeons aren't as cheap as they once were (at one point you could pick them up for £5-£10)

Full list is here: anything socket 1150 will fit and should work

I only just upgraded what i call the family PC yesterday which was an old Z87 / 16GB /4770k / GTX1080 setup
It was still working great for anything they used it for (ie web browsing Netflix, YouTube, Roblox , Sims 4 etc )

What did you do with the 4770k?

I kept the Z87, 16GB DDR3 ram and H80i cooler.

Picked up a 500w coolermaster PSU, 1660 GTX, 500gb SSD and 27" Asus 1080p monitor for £80.

Was looking fot a 4790k but they fetch silly money tbh not really worth it for a budget upgrade.
