PS3 - 1.92 update...tomorrow.

Maybe if you were more specific than just saying 'the exploit' people would be more likely to know what you're refering to.

This is ocuk forums right? If so I would rather not get into talks about the specifics. Here's a link to a Cnet article on it. Link

There has only been one update to fix a security vulnerability, another small update for the wireless guitars and 2 main annual updates. So I apologise if you didn't know what update I was on about. The main point was that the PSP has had numerous updates to fix exploits. Sony just wont give in. Which could be a good way or bad way depending on your views. It's just slightly irritating for the user to constantly have to update their system. I myself would prefer big updates not as often than little updates regularly.

People just aren;t as keen to find exploits for the 360 as they have what th emajority want, backup game playing.

but the thing is that MS put a lot more into those two updates so they pretty much equal what sony are doing. And a lot of the stuff that Sony are adding has been with the 360 since launch, stuff like auto power off controllers. Sony are just catching up!

This is in no way a blast at Sony, i think its great that both companies are continuing to update their products but people that make Sony out as amazing for adding all this every month just sound stupid

Don't get me wrong, I love my 360 to bits. I personally prefer using the Dashboard rather than the PS3's menu as I find it much easier to navigate around, and I do feel that at present that the 360 is more of a joy to use. I'm just saying that it would be a much better situation if Microsoft released patches more frequently with some of the features that the community really want.

I like the way Sony seem to take note of some of the things the community asks for, and also takes on board some of the criticism it gets and works to at least attempt to rectify the situation. Either way, both consoles and their respective manufacturers are working hard on adding as much as they can without causing major problems.

Personally I'd like to see some of the following features on the 360:

  • Better codec support (DivX, Xvid, etc)
  • Downloadable full games - a la Warhawk
  • Support for NTFS hard drives - I'd like to be able to keep home made DVD's on it without having to keep popping the disc in
  • Better implementation of the Messenger app - it's really quite bare at the moment, and would feature well from the ability to use the camera and headset for making calls.

But again, both system have their pluses and negatives, and both still have some way to go before they become fully fledged home media systems.

Since I did this update my PS3 internet browser/store and games stop working...

For those that get this problem they say to delete cookies cache, and also reboot router then the PS3.

Just giving a heads up thats all....

JUST TO CONFIRM THIS WORKS!
I have not had that, maybe it is router/wireless related?

not a problem with the router as such, the PS3 just needs refreshing. Looking at the forums it appears the deletion of cache, cookies, etc solves a lot of problems... I just rebooted my router as they said so :p

calm down dear. what security are you using on your router? i've found my ps3 does not like wpa2 AES+TKIP. i cant get it working at all. WPA2 AES is fine however.

Is the controller auto power off working for anyone?

Since the update, I left it the other day while watching a film, and the controller didn't turn itself off. Fair enough I thought, maybe it stays on during watching films, in case you want to pause etc.

I just left the machine on for an hour, downloading some trailers and stuff, and came back to notice the controller still on.

Is there a menu option I've missed somewhere?

V1N.
