Got the deal where you get extra controller, casino royale and black hawk down bluerays and 2 games which i obviously went for resistance fall of man and motorstorm, no brainer there

So far I'm loving the menu system. runs smoothly and very intuitive.

Haven't been able to do much with it so far but its updating itself to 1.92 now.

My other setup includes 37" Lc2DB tv, not sure which one is better 1080i or 720p ? I get the feeling less scaling is involved with 720p? as the PS3 isn't rendering anything natively in 1080i?

Audio is connected via optical cable to a sony 1200es receiver, shame it won't do LCPM over HDMI but i don't think my setup is high enough to notice the difference.

Bluetooth remote is annoying, I can't use my harmony with it lalalala....

Going to get PSN id soon and start getting some demos and trailers yay!

I've conected a microsoft USB keyboard, hopefully that will be fine.

Note to 360 fanboys, this machine isn't for gaming priority i have a quad core 4gb machine for that which will give the 360 red lights .

Any other tips/tricks i need to know?

Also can you rip cds on the HDD in mp3? will it tag them automatically?

btw Ps3 is connected via cat6 to my gigabit network

Wonder if it will stream anything? I have a dedicated media center pc for that so not too bothered there again.

You say it's not prioritized for gaming, yet you've spent a ton on what is essentially a mediocre multimedia machine? Blu-ray player I can understand (it's one of the best out there) but with your current PC, getting a PS3 for multimedia capabilities just seems a bit silly.

Oh i also like new toys hehe

at least i get a blueray player + free online gaming + quiet and nice looking thing that will last me for absolutely years.

Its a good upgrade from Xbox 1 anyways.

Also PSN network seems very slow for some reason to load up?? is this always the case then?

The device feels very classy and solid.

Will see how it works in practice over the next few days.

2 firmware revisions ago they added the ability to display any jpg wallpaper you like.

Also for streaming while it strictly cannot stream div'x on the fly from your pc, if you have nero you can use the transcode feature in nero media home to actually transcode the divx's on the fly over your network. Just google it. I use it and it works a treat. No need to bother manually converting them yourself. And no slowdown at all when playing back.

So you've turned it on and counted the buttons! How does that compare to a high-end PC?

Come back when you've played a top-end FPS on both of them then you can compare and talk about graphics, performance, controllers etc. All the things that actually matter.

don't take offence but what was the point of the post exactly? i can't find one

and it's obvious you didn't buy the PS3 for gaming, there's nothing worth playing you can't play on the 360 or PC.

If you put it that way then whats the point of getting a 360 if you have a PC and PS3? Especially when both are better at what they do than the 360.

Well a PC is free online gaming, a PC can be quiet and a PC is 100% better at all things media related.

IIRC Blu-Ray reader is about £150 now. ;)

Err... loads of BS, how is the PS3 a better games console at the moment? It lacks games, therefore it is not.

Erm i had a few questions,

This was posted in the pc gamer section by mistake

clearly the mods haven't moved it yet despite me asking above.

I have played darkness demo and its actually pretty good,

Sure its not going to beat the PC but its still pretty good for what is at the end of the day.

How is any of that relevant to this thread/

I just wanted some tips/tricks like how to join PSN US network.

No fanboys please.

It's relevant because you was banging on about how the PS3 is free online gaming and quiet.

I don't understand, unless you was moving from a 360 to PS3 and enjoying the free online service, it doesn't make sense.

Also a PS3 just as a media device is pretty silly, especially if you've already got a half decent PC.
