Well the Goldeneye Birthday thread was full of nostalgia so thought I would make one for the Dreamcasts as well. 8 years ago today it was launched, I never got it at launch, but when I did I was very impressed.

So many hours of fun, phantasy star online, Shenmue - one of the best games ever! Soul Caliber and crazy taxi to name just a few.

It seems so long ago, hardly any of my friends had one, kinda like the ps3 nowadays, role reversial!

Brilliant console and a brilliant controller. :)

Share your memories!

The whole story of SEGA since then has been sad, Sonic games are laughable these days and the games they publish just dont seem to make it.:(

Still got mine with 46 games. House od the dead 2 rules, i got in so much trouble for phoneline bills while on PSO :D

happy birthday dreamcast, was pleasantly suprised last month when mine started working today after a laser problem for a while(might have just been damp old flat)
Cant wait to start playing virtua-athlete drinking games again!!

8yrs, Jesus that went fast!

I must have started over 20 new Shenmue games since its release and still never got to disk 3, I will complete it one day, I am going to have a Shenmue weekend and do 1 and 2.

Yeah great console, like someone else the phone bills were nasty, but loved it. Shame it never got the success it deserved.

How does it look via VGA?

I'd be really interested to know how good it is via VGA, I want to plug my DC into my HDTV but it looks awful via RGB Scart.

Edit, Is this what i'm after?

It had the most 60fps games too - you really felt like you were getting a slick, smooth experience from it. Games like Crazy Taxi, Zombie Revenge, House of the Dead and Soul Calibur really blew you away.

There has never been an evolution like the Dreamcast. I went from weedy PS1 games to this monster of a powerhouse. You try going from Tekken 3 to Soul Calibur. You seriously won't find such a leap anywhere else. It's like God imbued Sega with the essence of knowledge only for the Devil to imbue Sony with the mantra of lies and deception, with their PS2 that led to the Dreamcast's downfall.

Was just before it's time, fragile minds could not comprehend the goodness of the cast.

Even it's colour was before it's time! :)

Got one on EU launch day, managed to go through 3 faulty consoles over the next 2 years, all exchanged under warranty thankfully :p

Just to say; Sega support = the most awesome and nicest people I ever dealt with.

Great company, didn't deserve such a fate.

8 Years? Blimey time has flown.

The console's stood the test of time really well. A lot of the games still play and look great to this day.
