Best selling video games ever

Sorry I rate the games in the list much higher than the ones you list. Not to say the ones you mention aren't good. I'd say the reason the ones I mentioned sold so well is because they are ultimate classics not because they are commercial.

Like The Sims and its billion add ons? lets face it, its the same with all media, films, music, the top selling aren't the best

how is Starcraft the highest PC game? I only know a cpl of people that bought it....

I'm guessing that you don't know several million people? :p

Anyways, I expect a large portion of Starcraft sales comes from Korea and the like where it's still an insanely popular multiplayer.

Sales only seem to matter here when someone is defending a beloved franchise.

A lot of the games on that list actually deserve to be there as they were flipping awesome, I'd even include Nintendogs in that so sue me.:p

ah, good to see FF7 there. best game ever. but SMB3 defiantely deserves the 2nd place slot there. i remember you could get like, a raccoon tail which you could spin attack with and float too. i think it was called tonuke.

memories! :D

Should they even count as games is a better question :)

Definitely, unless Halo isn't a game

Nintendo and StarCraft kick ass :p

It's insanely popular worldwide but UK gamers are pretty dull and very narrow minded. If it's not an FPS then UK PC gamers just aren't interested. SC kick started professional gaming and is incredibly popular in korea, USA, Germany, France, Sweden, Austria and many others.

We just suck here :(

Looking at the PC forum on OCuk, MMORPGs and RTSs (Dawn of War, C&C, etc) are pretty popular too. I'm sure plenty of copies of The Sims were sold in the UK too.

We like RTS games with shiny graphics rather than decent gameplay generally, and with a quick scan on the front page of the PC section I see: farcry, farcry 2, bioshock, CSS, quake 4, medal of honour, UT2004, fortress forever, BF2 and HL2. Far more threads that the 1 RTS and a small handful of MMORPG games.

Edit: Remember OcUK is a very twisted view of the UK in general, and stats on here doesn't represent anything on a nation wide level.

The majority do, doesn't mean we all do :p

StarCraft is quite amazing in its ability to allow diverse armies to be fielded while playing as the same race and remain to be balanced.

Its a great game, I just suck at it

That's because you suck :p

I've played StarCraft for years, the other three you mentioned bar DoW bore me silly. Do you play multiplayer or do you play "strategy" games vs the AI?

a bit of both, DoW and SupCom are both superb multiplayer, in fact three on three SupCom is some of the best Lan Gaming fun i've had (bar Flatout 2) DoW easily has the best universe out of any RTS, well balanced armies with radically different units (SupComs main downfall IMO) Starcraft 2 looks pretty nice, I think I played Starcraft 1 too late, by the time I played it there were far better RTS games out imo.

Starcraft remains so popular because its still the most balanced and suited rts to professional tournament play. There are better, more 'fun' rts to play on your own and casually with mates, but Starcraft is the daddy for the hardcore events that are all about skill and the micro!

StarCraft is still by far the best. Sheer skill wins the games and it's balance makes DoW green with envy. Supcom is just like TA, all the units are the same and incredibly dull imo. With starcraft every single unit has a strong purpose and all units are useful right up to the last moments of the game. Once you hit tier 3 units you don't stop needing tier 1 units and the 3 races all play in radically different ways. It's an amazing game and I really hope SC2 can match it.
