**New 7.9 ATI Catalyst™ Vista Drivers**

anyone tried these drivers on AGP cards? do they work?

i could only find 2 in the .ini file..
"VisionTek Radeon X1050 AGP" = ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4153&SUBSYS_30001545
"VisionTek Radeon X1050 AGP Secondary" = ati2mtag_RV350, PCI\VEN_1002&DEV_4173&SUBSYS_30011545

try it. it should have the agp drivers in it

I gave them a quick test in CSS stress test..

7.8s got me 165 FPS,
7.9s got me 171 FPS.

Thats at 1680x1050, all high, 4x AA and 16x AF.

OH MY GOD!!!!! Thankyou ATI!!!!!

Since I have installed my HD2600XT i've had a small 'glitch' every now and again in 3D games and in 3DMark06, which has shown up in frame rate scores. This update has fixed the bug. I'm on XP64 btw. These drivers are fantastic, check out the changes:
(Please note the inconsistencies in my testing. I forgot to test the 7.8's at default in 3DMark06, but you can see the reason for my joy).

7.9 - 146.73FPS

I am really pleased with these drivers :)

-------EDIT----------------
Researching into it further I can see the bug they have fixed. In all previous tests my results for Vertex Shader - Simple were lower than that of Vertex Shader - Complex.

Vertex Shader - Simple was stuck at 74.046 MVertices/s, 74.728 MVertices/s and 74.897 MVertices/s respectively. While the Vertex Shader Complex went 77.424 MVertices/s, 82.247 MVertices/s and 86.378 MVertices/s.

In the latest drivers the results are much more as they should be:

Vertex Shader - Simple 250.684 MVertices/s
Vertex Shader - Complex 85.205 MVertices/s

I don't know what they did to fix it, but this is a fantastic realease for me.

Excuse me for being dumb. I believed the CCC when it told me my card was running at default clocks. It turns out I was still being overclocked by riva tuner. Here are my corrected results, even still a huge improvement as my default score for 7.9 still beats my overclocked score for 7.8:

System Set-up
AMD X2 939@ 2.2Ghz
HD 2600 XT
Core @ 800Mhz
Mem @ 2200Mhz
Cat 7.9
3DMark Score 4694 3DMarks

HDR/SM3.0 Score 2113
CPU Score 1691

SM2.0 Score 1829
HDR/SM3.0 Score 2259

As you can see still a massive improvement, and all because of the fix for the implementation of the Simple Vertex Shaders

looks like these drives are borked too for x1950pro agp users. dunno what ati is playing at, they really messing up now big time.

At least ATI Acknowledge it in the release notes so theres no nasty supprises ;)

"Caution: Installing the Catalyst software suite 7.8 or 7.9 on a system containing the ATI Radeon™ X1950 AGP series of product may result in either the desktop failing to be drawn properly or the operating system failing to boot. It is recommended to continue using Catalyst 7.7 for this product at this time."

Increase of around 300points in 3DM06 on the QW 7.9 beta's so I'm assuming similar with these ones. There are many crossfire problems with the 2600XT's though like the overclocking for example, it just doesnt seem to be working  plus when will they fix crossfire for bioshock lol

Using a X1950Pro AGP and all is fine :) this is with Vista though it seems the problems are with XP.

i can't see any differents from the 7.8 to the 7.9 drivers

My boost was on XP64, I believe you are on Vista? Do you remember in your tests, when you were getting much better performance in Vista than XP? Put these drivers on your XP install, and see what happens to the comparison then. I think you will find much less of a difference.

wow!!!! i just benchmarked with 3dmark06 in xp. see results below...

Erm, Gareth. Compared to what scores exactly?. I don't think anyone is going to remember your previous score except maybe jrodga2k5 as you two have the cards.
this is the last one i did before.

3DMark Score 8854
3DMarks
1x1pix.gif
SM 2.0 Score 3500 Marks
1x1pix.gif
SM 3.0 Score 4412 Marks

CPU Score 2223 Marks

looking at that it isn't much different... lol

Sorted ;). Cheers Gareth.

Nice boost but did you notice your CPU score is a little lower on the 7.9 benchmark?. Overclock your CPU a little and rebench, try and get it closer for a more true result for yourself if you think it's worth it?.
