has any one seen a comparison of these two any where? I'd really like to see the performance difference between the two but i cant find any reviews/benchmarks! Any help would be appreciated.
 
hhmmm, my problem is im on an Asus x1600 XT 256mb. i really need to upgrade but i dont wanna pay £230+ for a 2900xt, i also dont like buying brand new hardware since companies have a habit of pushing out a revised edition shortly after, ie the x1600 -> x1650, or the x1900xt -> x1950pro. im trying to figure out what would get me the most for my money, and from what i can tell the 1950 is around double the speed of my 1600xt, thats what i can tell from the benchmarks anyway. £95 for a 1950 seems good to me, but it wont be enough shortly... i.e crysis n farcry 2.
 
the res you normally game at may help you decide which card you need and will help you fellow forum members in recommending what card is best for you, also if DX10 is wanted or not will also be a good statment to make.

1950 pro 512mb may be worth a look at.

if possible just hold off til crysis is released and check the benchmarks put out for it.

I usually game at 1280x800, DX10 would be great but it depends on the price...

Specs are:

Hiper 580W ATX2.2 PSU
Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ Stock
4GB Corsair XMS2-6400C5
Asus P5B
Asus Radeon X1600 XT Silent
WD Raptor 36GB
WD 500GB

Overall about 40% improvement but depends on your resolution and game.

Don't forget these were done with old drivers and it has been reported great improvements with each release of drivers by ATI so the 2900xt will be even better than as stated above.

does it say any where which drivers were used for those charts? Thanks for that link that really helped to put this into perspective.

I also saw that overclockers put the 2900 Pro up on pre order yesterday! They are much close to my price range... I'd really like to see some benchmarks on those!
 
Its definately more than double the performance, be a lot more now, the 2900 is even faster than the 640mb GTS.

I went from an x1800 XT 512mb (which is faster than the x1950 pro) to a 320mb GTS, and that performance increase was more than double, absolutely destroys my old x1800. :)

I have read that the 2900xt has a ridiculous psu requirement and is very load

only worth £80 in my book
