Any of you guys been to Alton Towers?

Going early tomorrow morning and will be staying there for the night in the Alton Towers hotel. There's four of us and to stay there overnight and get two days entry to the park (early Sunday too so we can nip round and do all the rides) it's only £80. I thought that was pretty good.

I wanted to know if there's any nightlife there at all, or if it's just a case of drinking at the restaurant/hotel bar? If not we were planning on getting a taxi to Alton, but the wiki says that it is just a village with a few pubs. Is there anything else in the area? Not looking to go clubbing or anything stupid like that, just a few drinks.

Also - what's the best ride and what should we aim to do first early on Sunday?
 
Air, Nemesis, Rita, Oblivion are the major rides. Going on a Saturday isn't the best time as it'll be busy, I'd go for those first.

The nearby village is lovely. Hardly a "happening" night spot, but bloody lovely.
 
Umm the entire park is lovely to wander round in. Went for the first time a couple of months back on a cheap deal. It really is in the middle of nowhere... I would recomend packing beer and sitting in the middle of a field somewhere!!

Agreed with the others on rides, but there is a great ride if you are going with a group... whole heap of chairs hanging by chains... can't remember the name but you can push and pull each other around on it for extra laughs.
 
Hmmm it should be pretty busy with it being a Saturday and stuff, but if you're going for 2 days you'll have enough time to go on everything.

I think one day is enough, we went during the Uni holidays on a Wednesday and it was very quiet, went on all the rides a handfull of times then it got boring by about 3pm :p
 
Air was such a let down and Oblivion is pretty boring. Nemesis is by far the best. Actually, I like the Black Hole too, especially when it goes backwards :D
 
Air... disappointing?

It's the best ride there imo! Rita is over far too quick, Nemesis is too confined (unless you're at the front), but Air is awesome.
 
Went a few weeks ago, first time in years last time i went was when black hole was new hehehehe. Any case enough nostalgia for me best ride was nemesis quickly followed by rita boy does that ride accelerate!! Was'nt that impressed by air yeah was novel in the fact you travel practically lying down but not that scary, then there's oblivion very different but short! Overall had a good day but spent most of the time queueing :( but was a bank holiday monday!

Regarding nightlife nearby not much like others said Alton is a village with just a couple of pubs closest proper nightlife might be in Stoke-on-Trent which cost a fortune in a taxi but might be wrong might be something closer.
 
Air was my favourite until I went on Rita, yeah it's very short but that acceleration is just addictive! I would have gone on that about 10 times if the queues weren't huge.
 
A few mates and I are also going tomorrow! We are all wearing aviator glasses so you might spot us!

Nemesis is by far my favourite ride. Defintately head there first!
