How can you justify a 2 grand gaming pc?

I'm not talking best selling I meant top games as in rated.

A lot of the best console games dont exist on pc / most dont even have an equivalent.

Its horses for courses but id still argue consoles have an innovation edge. By consoles too I mean all consoles spanning back through time.

the other point is that why have an expensive pc is a very common argument when you are comparing to newish consoles. give it another 6 months to a year and graphically the gap becomes larger and it is more obvious which way you need to go if you want the best gaming experience (assuming you care about gfx)

Yes but how many developers are going to cater for high end pc's when the console market is now so large and profitable. I very much doubt many developers will spend a lot of money making a superior pc version to the detriment of the console market, I think Deus EX 2, Vegas and Bioshock are examples of this.

I would love for PC gaming to be like it was but sometimes you just have to go with the tide. Consoles have more or less caught up with the strengths PC gaming once had.

okay so top rated games, doom, quake etc, not exactly spectacular on the old consoles...

a lot of the best PC games dont appear on the console and vice versa, i think that is a fairer comment than yours, which seems inherantly bias...

consoles have an innovation edge in which front? okay so you have eye toy - you have a web cam, you have a ps2/3 controller - you can plug it into PC.... etc

BioShock is better on PC, Vegas is just well, a fail. Like most of Ubisoft's efforts on PC games lately.

Anyway the developers that matter and give a **** about the PC userbase will make the games on PC still and they will probably be superior versions.

The PC is going nowhere and is going to be around a long, long time as a gaming format, Consoles have yet to catch up to PC's, the only difference from last gen and this gen is the fact they can be used in a higher resolution. (A resolution that was common in PC's from like 2001, yes I'm talking about 720p as most games render at 720 on the 360/PS3.)

I think Jihad summed up most of my opinion in his first reply. Along with the whole nowhere near 2000 quid. My only concern is the number of games released on PC just isn't as high as it used to be. 360 is definitely my primary gaming platform now.

I used to be a die hard pc gamer, but the 360 does everything better for me -i even prefer fps games using the pad.

I'm sick of mucking about with drivers, video settings etc and upgrading every 6 months to a new graphics card.

crysis ! nuff said

One thing i dont understand is why PC fan boys always say Crysis!! FFS! the multiplayer is average! i think tbh both consoles and the pc have reached a level of graphics now were i feel its more about innovation and most importantly GAME PLAY! and also. I am still yet to see a game that runs on a PC worth the same as either the 360/or PS3 that can get any were near the level of polish i have personally seen on a console. Iv played Both BioShock on a high end pc and my 360. And tbh i cant notice 1000 pounds worth of difference tbh.

But i think this is one of them convos that will never end as every one is open to there own oppinion. I have both a pc and a 360, I just want to play the best games that are out...currently the pc is lacking in playable UBERNESS! Fingers crossed Crysis will sort this!

BRING ON HALO 3!

Thats not what I mean, im talking about new types of games. Eg take platformers, they dont exist on pc, where they do they suck pretty hard and dont generally feel right.

There is a variety that comes with consoles that you dont get with PC. Bar RTS there are just more games of differing gameplay styles on consoles. I dont see how you could argue against that.

People see consoles as some kind of device that people who dont have enough technical know how use. They dont understand twaeking anti aliasing and installing drivers so they stick to the kiddy/easy version of the real deal. I dont see it in that way at all. Its just a platform to which developers can mould the experience as they know how everyone will be playing the game.

ATM im playing we love katamari, jet set radio, ratchet and clank, super paper mario and castlevania: dawn of sorrow. None of which would be playable in the same way on a PC. Its not about graphical power or mouse aiming. They both support different types of games and it seems ot me that the pc industry has been caught in a rut these last few years plodding out the same games with enhanced features. This is fine as its playing to the strengths of mainly the mouse control scheme but its just more exciting atm in the world of consoles, for me at least.

I personally feel that I've wasted money on pc's in the past few years, however this is more to do with me not spending enough time on my degree and overspending vastly on hardware, chopping and changing all the time for very little reason. In the last year I have had 3 different pc's (mainly case changes and watercooling that came and went) and 3 laptops. I now have a Macbook and my 360 and I am absolutely resolved to stick to it and NOT buy another pc!

PC's still do more than any console can, and it's not true that you have to spend mega bucks to enjoy gaming on a pc. It's not in developers interests to make games that only a small number of people can play after all.

I think the argument is a bit like asking someone why they bought a ferrari instead of a ford focus (for example), after all they both do the same job - but as with pc's some people will pay more for the speed, the fun, the quality etc.

I'll admit I wish I could play TF2!

I have always wondered why people would bother spending say 2 grand on a gaming pc, which will be old in about 6 months to a year and will have to pay an extra 500 quid ish on upgrades to play the latest games on max gfx.
Who on earth spends £2000 on a PC? Gullible idiots maybe.

Fifa, PES, NHL, etc... all as good or better on the pc...better gfx, smoother, online support etc...

Perhaps if you're outputting to a large screen and have 2-4 joypqads working. I couldn't invite my mates to sit round a desk and play on a tiny monitor.

Aye me to thats why I switched to consoles November last year. Just last week me and my mate bought a copy of Bioshock. I've played it all the way through and had a good time (360) and he has played no more than 5 minutes before it keeps crashing at the same point every time (PC). Hes got the latest Direct x, Patch etc and still no joy. It's really not worth the hassle especially when an easier alternative pick up and play format is available.

Playing on a big HD telly is a massive selling point against a slight improvement in graphics on the PC anyway in my opinion.

£2k on a gaming machine is a touch overkill imo but if you're in to games and you want to spend the money then great, nothing to do with anyone else what you enjoy.

£2k for some people is months of saving up and for others it's maybe a bonus for a months work, so therefore money has a different value to everyone and then combine that with what someone thinks a pc is worth to them.

No need to condemn the format because of developers releasing a buggy game.

I personally had zero problems with BioShock on PC it ran super smooth with no tearing but quite a lot couldn't even load the thing up.

The fact is, these problems are VERY common on PC. All you have to do is open the PC section for there to be a couple of threads on the first page about a game not working, or patches etc..
