Opinions please!

Thanks ;)

Back in the day, this was probably the best mmorpg going. And I still think out of all of them the best PVP. However it has changed a lot of the years and some people may tell you not for the better. But like I say, back in the day it was a life stealer! ;)

/Goes into rose tinted spectacles mode

It was a good game.. 6 years ago, much of the community has gone now and no doubt Mythic will be concentrating more on Warhammer than daoc. The pvp system was one of the best I played in a mmorpg, but I dont know whether theres enough active players nowadays to make pvp fun .

Your welcome to give it a shot but like other said, the game is now quiet a few years old and most of the pvp community has gone, there are still numerous servers that are busy but they tend to be filled with hardcore players that pvp in groups. The only very active pvp server i know of currently is Avalon which is a german server.

Its a good game, if you give it a shot, play US and play the classic servers (Bossiney Cluster) has the most population, is really quite active and still going strong.

I played this for many years over on the US servers, but nowadays I wouldn't recommend it, Mythic has pretty much given up on it. Only the very hard-core players are left now and they are slowly destroying the game themselves. Don't for a second think you can just go into the PVP zones and get a kill :) Un-templated and without buffs you'll get practically one-shotted by high RR stealthers and roaming 8-Mans will have killed you before you even see them coming :)

Everything that needs ot be said has been,
back in the day it was the best game of its genre just marketted REALLY badly
Just to give you an idea of how long it takes to get pvp "ready" when i played

-level 1 to 45 powerleveling takes about 3 days (this means optimised groups of higher level characters for the sole purpose of leveling the lower level characters)
- on top of this you have master levels, these are additional abilities gained by doing quests.
Basically there are steps on these quests which can only be done in a group, solo and then bigger steps which take 15 (if tailored for the purpose) to 50 people to do
The minimum time is approximately a week; this with 3 full groups of tailored people doing 6 hr stints, this is because on top of actually doing the steps you need to get master level experience to move to the next level
- On top of this you have weapons and armour called Artifacts which are gained by killing certain mobs in varying scenarios, this on average just needs 1 full group (8 people), once you have these artifacts you need unlock them by farming scrolls (3 are needed for each artifact, the drop rates vary on the parts but in total you need a copy of the scroll 1/3, 2/3 and 3/3) once unlocked you need to level them, in a tailored group this takes a few days to a week
Both the above were introduced in the Trials of Atlantis Expansion
- Once you have finished all this there are additional abilities gained by doing Champion Levels introduced in the Catacombs expansion, these again are quests which are done solo to 1 full group, these can be done in a day if you have a tailored group
-I cant comment on what needs to be done in the latest expansion as i retired before it hit
- Finally you need to get yourself armour crafted so that you have your resitances and skills maxed

Once you have done all the above you are ready to go pvp, but you still cant solo :( this is because when pvp'ing you get realm points for killing people/doing objectives, these equate to Realm Ranks which give you points for abilities only gainable in pvp.
Around Realm Rank 5 if you are competant you have a fighting chance

I'm not meaning to scare you away from the game, but the reality is the game is 4 or so years old and it is now not very newbie friendly as there is an awful lot to do

Correct.

Forget EU, I played on the EU since beta and stopped 2 years ago as the population has gone, got a L50 on Bossiney.

Pretty cool playing classic.

Not quite true on the classic servers, I got to L50 in about 2 days played (thats total ingame time for the others reading)... 90% of it solo (dark sm) that included epic and getting champion weapon... no need to do arties or master levels on classic.

much better.

Epic armour is actually very good now.

Alongside Ultima Online, DAoC was the best mmorpg I'd ever played. Sorry WoW never came close. Sadly it's declined as the game matured, which is quite typical for a mmorpg. The Trials of Atlantis expansion killed it for me with it's lame time sinks.

UO died for me when artifacts were introduced with the Age of Shadows expansion. Daoc died for me when artifacts were introduced with ToS above. Ack ack!

It was a great mmorpg in its day, and had the best pvp system I have came across in a mmorpg. Its still fun if you have never played it, theres a free trial if you want to check it out -

I get tempted now and again to go back for a quick blast in the battlegrounds and trying weird specs.

That better be a dwarf thane!!!! :p

keep SC and your chosen weapon as high as you can, forget about shield unstil you have spare points.

thought i would post a update as i am now level 20, been going to battleground and its amazin how good it is adrenaline rush when taking the keep. glad i started this game :D

DAoC was an excellant game with the best PvP (RvR) of any MMORPG that I have played.

As already stated, there probably wont be enough people playing anyone to make it as good as it used to be and it will also be hard to get levelled for PvP as soloing is very difficult.

Glad to hear your enjoying it, taking and defending keeps is good fun.
Have you tried making seige weapons yet :)

With the catacombs expansion you can level solo quick in task dungeons and catacombs quests give good xp to.

The game is better at 50 so keep leveling :)
