OCUK advertising 2900 Pro in stock

HI there

Yes we are the first in the UK with stock! HIS is selling very quick and we expect Sapphire middle of next week.

does the pro use the same cooler as the xt?

HI there

Yes it does!

As I've said for the last week now these are literally downclocked 2900 XT's. Hence the good buy! The only downside is very limited availability as its literally a stop gap product unfortunately.

I can't help thinking that poor sales of the 2900XT forced them to resell them as 2900Pro's and downclock them to stop us 2900 owners bleating. Looks like a great card for the money.

HI there

Quite unlikely for the simple fact that since day one of the 2900 XT launching its always been hard to get hold off due to the stock always selling.

gibbo, don't suppose you've tried whacking a 2900 pro in with a 2900xt in crossfire? i assume if the pro can hit xt speeds or if you downclock the xt there shouldn't be an issue. or will drivers only let you crossfire identical cards. i would imagine someone will find a way to flash a xt bios on to the pro, or vice versa so it would work. thats if it won't work anyway.

Gave up thinking and just ordered one.

As Gibbo says, looks like at stopgap card to fill the price point of the 8800GTS 320Mb until the RV670 cards come out end of this year, start of next.

Looks great if you can just clock them straight back to XT specs ..... exactly the sort of product 'Overclockers' should sell!!

just bought myself a HIS 2900 Pro 512mb and very much looking forward to replacing my ageing 256 X1800 XT. it just couldnt hack resolutions above 1200.

also bought an athlon 3800 X2 (939) to replace my single core athlon 3500.

all in all very happy with a significant performance boost for a shade over £200.

hope my cheapy 550W power supply can manage ok...

Firstly, congratulations on your new purchase :). I hope you will have many hours of fun killing helplessly .

I would however double check that PSU. What 12v rails does it have?. Or do you have a link to the specifications?.
