Boris Johnson is tory candidate for London mayoral elections

The thinktank highlights Mr Johnson's consistent opposition to the recommendations of the Macpherson report into the murder of Stephen Lawrence and his suggestion that racism would be better tackled if "we axed large chunks of the anti-racism industry, stopping taxing so many people with the threat of legal action, and left a bit more of the struggle against racism to tolerance and good manners".

The report also quotes a Daily Telegraph column from 2002 in which Mr Johnson referred to "flag-waving picaninnies" and made an ironic reference to "tribal warriors [breaking] out in watermelon smiles" upon Tony Blair's arrival in Africa.

On South Africa, Mr Johnson is quoted as claiming that "the minority tyranny of apartheid [has been] followed by the majority tyranny of black rule", while the problem with former colonies is "not that we were once in charge, but that we are not in charge any more".

lol, yeah what a nice bloke to represent a multi-cultural London :rolleyes:
His a joke tbh!

Boris is, and the Ottomans managed to bankrupt themselves and choke on their bureaucracy, so this tendency will run in the family, so to speak.

Looking at his comments on black people, it seems that even Oxford couldn't get Ottoman mentality out of him.

He is complete garbage as Mayoral candidate. He's gonna be acting like Micky Mouse and mess London up even more.

@Rosbif :p

He makes some valid points though, e.g
his suggestion that racism would be better tackled if "we axed large chunks of the anti-racism industry, stopping taxing so many people with the threat of legal action, and left a bit more of the struggle against racism to tolerance and good manners".
I wouldn't disagree with that, but not sure that it's a debate for this thread. :)

Boris would get my vote, he is worth it just for the entertainment value alone. I like that he speaks his mind, regardless of what he is saying.

Always made me laugh when he did his rant at Portsmouth..people were outraged, yet , speaking as a pompey person, nothing he said was false. The way he described it was how it actually is imo. The adage that people dont like to hear the truth sprung to mind in that instance.

Either way, he's worth it , nice to see a politician with some interest about him, better than all the bland sit on the fence politicians we see so much of these days

Ottoman = Turkish

Greeks hate turks

Ex-Ronin = Greek.

Just incase it made no sense to anyone.

I'd vote for him... Yes, his views are sometimes inflammatory, yet I find myself in agreement with them more often than not. As for the remarks on South Africa, I recently read a book concerning the plight of ex-colonial African states with the advent of majority rule, and it pretty much came to a similar conclusion.

I also hate the way the Labour party and the liberal media label him as a buffoon, when in actuality, all he is really guilty of being is decidedly un-politically correct.

Just adding to the quote about what Boris Sadi about colonialism - Siera Leon actually asked for colonial status back!

I couldn't agree more with that statement.

Boris is great.

Great, a publicity hungry buffoon, just what the capital needs.

Say what you like about Ken's policies, but at least he's a do-er. Congestion charge - ok so most people hate it, but what a triumph, getting a system on that scale implemented with so few problems.

Compare that with the majority of large IT projects done in the public sector!

Isn't that kinda wrong though, surely a good mayor would be implementing schemes that most people want not hate:)

Like spending £400k on a statue of a former terrorist?

I'm not sure politicians act how people want, despite all their "honourable" intentions.

So your argument for Ken is that although he implemented a system that is mostly hated, hasn't really achieved its goals and which was done without widespread consultation, at least it was done with so few problems (despite Capita being fined).

Bring back Mussolini, all is forgiven ;)
