Edge reviews Halo 3.

Did i miss something?

I havn't had much time to play it yet,but i'm loving it so far.

Why all the hate for Halo 3?

my reason is because i have a PS3 and can not play it and im a sony fan boy :P

lol nah it's because i beleave a 10 mark is to high for said game thats all.

Well from what I've played of the game I think it's excellent and definitely one of the best games I've played for many years. Bioshock left me a little underwhelmed but I really like it all the same.

See thats my point.. bioshock got 10 / 10.. but clearly its far from perfect :D

Being such different games it's not really fair to compare Halo 3 to Bioshock like for like. It is quite safe to say that the combat in Halo 3 is much, much better.

or more to the point some people love to hate whats popular.

Or....... maybe everybody actually has different tastes, and some people are capable of forming their own opinions?

Like I said before, Halo fanboys are actually starting to scare me: OMG YOU DONT LIKE HALO 3 YOU ARE JUST HATING MS/BUNGIE/JUMPING ON THE BANDWAGON11!!!ONE

Thats not really the case, its more the point that nothing ever lives up to the hype... Especially the hype that seems to steam out of MS and Halo launches.

GOW was a similar one..

Its pretty fair to say that those games that are truly great are they ones that didnt gte over hyped. Halo 1 was a good example of this, it was only after the game was out, that all the talk started spreading and the game earnt its "greatness" .. it wasnt thrust upon it by some mass marketting afair.

Same goes for Goldeneye on N64, Half-Life 1 on PC.. and some others i cant be arsed to list right now

Im sorry but no game deserves 10 /10 no matter how good it is.. That essentially saying its the ebst game ever made and cannot be bettered..
...

Surely a game should be reviewed relative to the time of it's release. i.e. a 10/10 score doesn't mean the greatest game of all time, merely the best that you can get right now.

No-one knows what the greatest game of all time would be like (or a tribute to the greatest game of all time), so it would be silly to use that as the benchmark 10/10 perfect score.

But that's the point, it's not the best you can get right now if single player gaming is your bag.

But everyone slating Halo 3 seems to be ignoring the multiplayer aspect which is a huge thing to dismiss.

I will say I'm not sure the game deserves a 10/10 but it is amazing fun and I've yet to look at the single player campaign.

Perhaps to somebody it is the perfect game. Not everybody has the same tastes so different people will mark games differently. I dare say if a different member of staff from Edge reviewed it then perhaps it would get a different mark, maybe a 7, 8, 9 or even a 4. Reading this thread and this board makes it clear that people will not universally unite behind a game.

Man, one of my favourite games on the Megadrive was Balljacks. That got panned in Mean Machines back in the day. I played it for weeks!

I agree and quite frankly I'm getting tired of people comparing them just on the basis that they are both first person perspective games, people seem to group them all together as the same genre also, Bioshock is more an RPG game than anything else so how on earth you can compare it to Halo 3 is just crazy, why are we still stuck with this backward mentality that all games based on a first person perspective are FPS's , the first person perspective is just an evolutionary step towards games becoming more realistic and up until recently it was only really a perspective that was predominately used for no brainer shooters (FPS's), but times are changing now, lets try and not group all of them under the same umbrella, Bioshock and Halo 3 are TOTALLY different games/genres.

I don't deny the multiplayer game is awesome (although I have yet to play the multiplayer game) and have never dismissed it, but the fact is the game as a whole doesn't deserve a 10/10 because there are better single player games out there.

Nooo. Don't tell anyone, but I actually really like Halo 3 and think it's as deserving of a 10 as anything released in the two years. I just don't want any aggro from those that disagree. :p

You have got to be joking. The thought of even comparing it to RFOM, which I did enjoy, makes me feel ill!. The gulf of complexity and depth of combat between Halo and RFOM is staggering - Halo slaughters it. Put simply, RFOM is Halo's idiot brother - no thinking required.

I'm confused. :(

I never even mentioned Resistance.
