Half Life 2

Meh, I thought it was pretty average to be honest. The slippery feel to everything annoyed me no end as well, not to mention the AI bugs. I've certainly never had any inclination to buy EP1.

I loved HL2. Fantastic atmosphere, visual quality, sound, attention to detail, dialogue, story...everything. I finally got round to completing HL2 earlier this year (despite having it since release), and finished Ep 1 a few weeks ago. I got my housemate into HL2, and it was nice to be able to watch him play through it, just to see it all again.

Without intending to steer this topic off-course, I don't understand why there's so much fuss about FarCry. I downloaded it not long ago when it was released for free, and aside from the graphics looking fairly good for their age, I wasn't hugely impressed. Enemy AI, while good, wasn't particularly realistic, the weapons all felt a bit arcade-ish and didn't have any punch to them, and the voice acting was terrible. Not a bad game, by any means, but I was disappointed.

I think the mine bit was one of the most boring/annoying parts of the game for me - seem to remember it had quite a few tricky platformy bits.

what? you go down a shaft, jump on the floor, run up some stairs and crawl across some wood beams to get out. takes about 1 minute tops? :p

Yeh, G for God. The whole of episode 3 is basically going to be set in that church thing from lost coast. You sit there while Gman delivers a sermon, with a massive 16 hours of gameplay :D

Gman is clearly like an intergalactic United Nations, the combine are getting too big for thier boots so Gman sends in Freeman. Fist of the law i say!

We don't goto Ravenholm is the best level. :)

Yep loved that section along with the boat and car sections.

The Mine is probably the most boring part of the entire game, but it is very short.

The entire game though is fantastic, not once did I think 'omg when is this part going to end' and I usually do with most games.

played half way through this until my PC died

just started playing it again and have just got my anti mavity gun thing and am now in that town with all the headcrab people

it never seemed to grab me the first time i played it, was just playing it to say ive done it, but im enjoying it a lot more this time round :)

I'm also giving it another go. Recently purchased the orange box and want to play through HL2 before beginning episode 1 and then 2.

When it first came out I stopped halfway through the boat bit (Water Hazard?) because I can't stand vehicles in FPS. This time I forced my way through it and prayed that it was ending at every loading point (my God it doesn't half go on for a long time). Now I have gotten to the point where they've plonked me into some uncontrollable buggy and I just wish there was a way to avoid it. Please tell me that this section is short and that there are no other vehicle sections afterwards and I may be tempted to just get it over with.

hehe stick with it mate, the buggy section isn't as long as the boat section imo.

I guess you either love or hate the vehicle sections, don't normally like vehicles in fps's but I think they did a good job in hl2.

I think i stoped playing when i got to the end of the boat scene. Was really long and boring that. Felt like a river boat simulator game lol.

Edit - I got past that bit i stoped at the chasing reverend or some insane person. Im where the cars go up and down bit.

I always liked the bridge section..it felt high and dangerous going across the girders..thats when you have to have the death race with the train..I like the buggy section!

I can't play HL2 without getting serious headaches at times, sometimes even migraines :(

Good game though, although I really didn't like the bit where you have to use the river boat, that went on far too long.

Was i the only one who thought the hovercraft was one of the greatest moments in gaming history? Weaving your way through sewer pipes, jumping over floating mines, crashing through bridge supports thus taking out a squad of combine... and of course the Gman, always watching from the bridge above DAMN HIM!

Half Life 2 was one of the best games i have ever (and probably will ever) play, Episode 1 was a disappointment, too dark, too dank and generally too enclosed. After the epic scenery of HL2 (the bridge section for example) i felt slightly let down. Lets hope EP2 is a return to form, TF2 seems to be a great start for the orange box.

The vehicle sections were good when I first played them, however when going through a second time the novelty wore off a bit. You need sections like that in the game to give you a sense of travelling though, and I think it works better than the annoying trams in the original!

I'm quite looking forward to seeing how the open environment of a forest works in EP2, but as my tactics are more usually based on jump round a corner and shotgun them in the face I'm not sure how well I'll be able to handle it! Portal also looks like the knid of thing that'll give me insomnia too. My only worry is that my aging x800 just won't be up to the task, and I'll have to wait a couple more months until i update before I can play em.

PK!
