Anyone had any experience with these?

Been offered one + CASH$$ as a p/x for an A8 I have.

EDIT: Its a 2001 W-Reg with 52k, FSH

Is there anything wrong with the A8?

Can't understand why you'd downgrade to a Vectra to be honest! :)

No no, nothing wrong with it. Am attempting to clear some debts before getting married next year, I'd either sell A8 outright, or take cash and a "lesser" car for it.

Backache wouldn't concern me too much, as I don't do a lot of miles, although it is 95% town driving, which gets me about 12-14mpg in the A8.

Fair enough... personally I wouldn't buy a Vectra, Vauxhalls do absolutely nothing for me. This car was heavily criticised for its bland looks and blander driving. Dull dull dull ZZzz... :)

If was trying to save money, I also wouldn't be looking at V6 saloons when doing 95% town driving.

I used to drive an IS200 around town, which is a straight 6 and only 500cc smaller engine, it wasn't too bad. And I'm not specifically looking at the 2.5 V6, it's been offered and I was looking for opinions :)

That's a Lexus though with quality build and engineering. Everything a Vectra isn't.

Okay okay lets get back to the point (and ignore the fact that mpg figures are similar for IS200 and 2.5 SRI); is the Vectra a decent enough car? I'll be keeping it for 12 months max, do about 130 miles a week atm.

No, its not a decent enough car.

I wouldn't entirely agree with that, sure it's bland to look at and bland to drive but it is a solid reliable car and if all you want is to run around in it for 12 months doing the millage you indicate it would be decent enough. Not saying i'd get one or that there are not half a dozen other comparable cars that are more decent just saying that it isn't the worst car ever made an would certainly fullfill your needs.

Thanks for the alternative opinion. I'll maybe take the Vectra for a spin and see how it goes; for the foreseeable future I'll be driving to work 5 days a week and not much driving at weekends, so I'm not too bothered if the car isn't fantastic. Do the occasional drive to Oban from Dundee, but if I can do that in a 1.2 Clio I can do it in anything :D

How are they solid and reliable?

My girlfriend had a V reg 2.0 GLS and at 115,000 miles the engine was kicking out blue smoke, oil was always dripping out of it underneath, the rear brakes were almost siezed up and the whole car creaked when you went round corners!!

I would say they were far from it as this car wasn't abbused and got as much servicing as any other normal car.

Oh and I can't believe I forgot this, but it had rust round all the rear arches and hints of rust in other places on the car too

Bare in mind this is was a facelift V reg, whats that 1999? Hardly ancient!!
They can't have recieved any rust treatment at all under their paintwork

I'd say 115k was quite high for something like a Vectra though? Certain cars age well, others don't. Vectra I was offered has done 52k.

Sell A8 .. Get mondeo for 4-5k?. Sorted?

Edit - Seems to be a few Zetec and TDCI models with low milage for that price on petrolheads.

Modeozzzzz

How much £££ would you be getting if you px? If its only for a year, it might not hurt. Having said that if its only for a year and youre only doing 130miles you might as well sell the A8 and get a dirt cheap run about for next to nothing. Anything would to imo for just one year.

Vectra's are rep cars surely they are expected to rack up 100k pretty quicky...same as mondeo's, primera etc...

if it were me, id sell for CASH and buy a car of my (your) choice. dont fall ito a trap of a deal just so that you can get rid of the A8...

get a mondy, or a primera GT for like a grand and razz about in that for a few months!!
