OcUK Forums Changes

Wow, I've missed a lot in the past 24 hours I've not been at a computer! Congratumalations to all the new Underbosses :)

With the mafia being a largely male dominated paramilitary organisation, we're going to have trouble if we insist on female mafia members.

Although...

from season 2... ;)

I would like to see a relaxation on competitors but only for stuff OCUK doesn't sell.
eg A poster in General Hardware is after a parallel port lead for his laser printer and searching OCUK I couldn't find one.
It would be nice to link to that one item.
The other month I linked to a Thin Lizzy DVD and I was told 'no competitors' which did seem a tad silly.

I'd like to be able to use more than five images per post. Five isn't many really when you take smilies into account.

Ten would be much more user friendly and sensible.

One thing I've never wanted, looks much better the way it is imho.

I dont understand why you feel that way??, do you like being portrayed as a man??. I think its time that female members did have their own female avatar tbqh.

It would be another way of 'singling out' the female members, I can't say for certain but I think some of them rather enjoy the anonymity of everyone having the same choice of avatar and not having to proclaim they are female unless they choose to. This forum probably isn't as bad as some but there are still a fair few "OMGWTF a girl" type posts every so often.

+1 for this, when posting pictures for anything 5 per post becomes a real problem.

I think the rules etc. are pretty much good as they are. Maybe increase the 20kB sig limit a bit but that's nothing important.

:)

Now i would almost agree since, while there are some, there are few 56k users left. But, broadband or not, the hosting used for some of them is dire and slows page load times drastically on occaision. So I would lean towards keeping it as is for now :(
Same applies to the images per post thing, its almost at the point where the viewers connection is irrelevant but the posters hosting is iffy.

Slightly degrading that, no?

I said face shot. Couldn't find a decent one on google so I posted that.

Again, you'd have to crop something from the film to get the perfect one.

I'd hardly expect the girls to have scantily clad avatars!

I just feel that having been here so long the male avatars feel a part of who I am here. I don't like change much :p I also don't see why there has to be male and female avatars. It's a theme and the male pictures are by far the best with the best characters from films and real life.

Usually I wouldn't like being portrayed as a man at all but with the sigs you can have what you like (within reason) so I don't feel the need to define my womanhood with an avatar.

I agree. I've just increased it to 10 :)

Unfortunatley not every girl thinks the same as you Jodie:-

Lady avatars. I fed up having a boy face! I'm a girl!

Also a ban log sticky so you can see why people have been banned and how long for. Useful for stamping out repeat offences.

Perhaps ban down to forum level. For example you may have a muppet who posts crud in GD but is actually really helpful in the sports forum. So ban him fro GD with a warning for a complete ban for anymore bad behaviour

Perhaps a compromise - with all the excellent avatars posted in the design thread how about giving users a choice of which one they'd like?

We could still maintain specific avatars for X amount of posts even if this idea was implemented.

Your thoughts?

I can see where Jodie is coming from, I don't see the need to make it a publicly known fact that someone is female.

There were female posters who have been confused for men in the past (non female orientated signatures and names) but I don't see what there is to gain from making it known.

Of course, that's just my opinion and I have no opinions as to women avatars, I don't see it as a problem now or if they decided to bring female avatars in.

The way some act over women on these boards, it's probably better for them to live in anonymity. :p
