Royal Mail Strike Action

Haven't been following this at all. But let me get this straight. Posties are paid for 37hrs a week. But if they rush their deliveries and work say 30hrs they still get paid for 37?

So when is the strike ending? I heard Wednesday?

What sort of backlog are we talking here? A few weeks before normal service?

Yep this is what people fail to understand, WE deliver competitors hand post!

You wouldn't believe how many calls we (TNT) get from people who have received letters that have TNT Post on them. They assume that TNT deliver them, even though these letters arrive with the rest of their mail :p

All we do is collect (sometimes) and sort it, make a profit on it, then Royal Mail deliver it.

"Stop sending me letters" some woman told me the other day.... she did not have the slightest clue even when I explained the whole situation to her.

Heard wednesday is the end of the strike. i hope my parcel will arrive on thursday. Been a week of waiting for SPECIAL DELIVERY.

In my neck of the woods it's takes a couple of days until things shake themselves out. Thursday is likely to be the really heavy day when the Mail centres have had a full night sorting.

Trouble is the rolling strikes are scheduled to start again next week from Monday 15th. :(

Posties work 40hr per week for your info not 37 and its more 45 some weeks when you add on the overtime because if you didn't do the overtime then some runs wouldn't go out
and you would't get so so cc bill.

Thats because last weeks strike ended over the weekend and this weeks end tomorrow morning 3am.
We should get everything cleared by the end of the week
and the next strikes wont be a hole UK
In will be different parts every week
Am against the strike by the way.

3am? YES! Hopefully i'll get my parcels straight tomorrow morning!!

i have nothing against my posties, van drivers, delivery office etc (chester le street del office).

For as long as i have known they have always been fantastic and friendly.

Not see our usuall postie for a while - he mentioned ages ago he was doing more van work, or he may poss of retired. - he was the best postie ever.

He is prob moved a better job that is a bit better for a man of his years
I dont think he could retire unless he is 65 now
Good for him I have another 25 odd years to go and counting.

Well my exptected delivery from City Link, didn't come as usual!

21:27 Tuesday, October 9, 2007 Delivery point closed (Carded)
so much for next day delivery! £10 down the drain!

I miss Royal Mail!!

Just out of interest, can anyone who supports the strikes justify the following as acceptable in any business enviroment?

Royal Mail accuses the union of wanting to preserve working practices such as:
Automatic overtime pay if mail volumes reach a certain level regardless of how many working hours remain in the day
No overlap between functions in the same workplace
Collection drivers can expect overtime pay for doing collections outside their route even if it is done within normal working hours
Overtime pay to cover colleague absence or to help in the sorting office even if within normal working hours

This is on top of already not having to work the hours you're paid for...

I absolutely agree with you on this Dolph. It really is absurd to expect the above practices to be implimented. It beggars belief?

That’s a load of tosh! for one I haven’t heard of those proposals just RM management shouting spout to stir things up, and to answer your question no I wouldn’t stand by them proposals as they are well pathetic, and I expect the majority of RM staff to feel the same. IMO

These new starts time are **** we were waiting around till 10am to get out of the office to start our deliveries usually were out for 8/9ish ah well that’s modernisation for you keeping us in the office a little bit longer

I seriously hope some sort of agreement can be reached soon!

I've got literally hundreds of things that have been "sent", and I don't know if I can handle them coming in drips and drabs!! It's going to be nightmareish to account for missing items.
