Just had a quicky on HL2 ep2 and was just wondering how every one else was getting on with it?

I played on max settings at native res, (with vsync) and had 60fps most ov the time, with the lowest at about 52,

looks like a good game, i got spat on by some weird new spider thing that killed me and then a little msgbox came on screen (bottom right) and said acid reflex tactic learned / or something to that effect, better late than never thats what i say.... oh wait i was dead at this point and i dont think education occurs in the same way when your brain no longer functions!!! lol

so lets get a discussion goin then!!

Wow that seems awfully low for 2900's in crossfire, im assuming its not working with crossfire yet

At 1280x1024, 8xMSAA, 16xAF, Motion Blur etc everything highest and doesnt drop below 52fps and stays between 80-120 the majority of the time :) I wonder what your systems goes to without VSync on!

Havent done a proper bench just had Fraps running in the background! Very nice game indeed!

Does Vsyn make much difference in games? what sort of picture difference?

It eliminates tearing and render choppiness - makes the game motion look like a movie.

If your GFX card can maintain a solid fps at your monitors refresh rate then vsynch works great.

personally i dont like vsync lol i like screen tearing i know ths sounds wierd but i been gaming on pcs sing mid 90's and im used to it it just feels normal, when i try v sync something dont seem right and i dont like it . wierd huh lol

I get quite low fps (25 - 35) at 1650 with a Go 7950gtx with vsync on. Would I get more fps turning vsync off?

1920x1200 with all max settings 8xAA 16xAF, motionblur... all cooshdy, not sure about the FPS though... bit n00by but how do I check my FPS in HL2? thanks :)

No, because all vsync does is limit it to your monitor refresh rate, which is probably anything from 60 to 85hz, which means you would be limited to between 60 and 85FPS. I would assume your system is not up to getting any better rates at your particular setting.

Does anyone else have the floor turn purple in the Source Stress Test? It seems to do it with high levels of AA and AF.

I had missing textures on the floor while playing. I had AA switched off so turned it to 2x at that sorted it.

Try that.
