Royal Mail Strike Action

I mentioned that last night there was unofficial strikes taking place, just didn't know all the information then. It's due to them returning to work to be treated like **** basically. I mean i can see how the company are annoyed with the amount of workers who went on strike but for them to come back to start working and to be treated the way some of them have is stupid as they walked straight back out again costing the company even more money due to stupidity.

Damn Royal mail for expecting people to do their job correctly....

They have been doing their job correctly. The problem is that management wants to move the goalposts wrt what is "correct", and have now done so without any sort of consultation.

Given that they can do it without consultation, I would suggest it doesn't involve any change to contractual terms, and so the workers would have very little to stand on if they are just starting to make people work to their actual contracts. From what has been said it seems that RM is stopping people doing things their own way (ie turning up whatever time they feel like, and not working their full contracted hours) and actually enforcing what has probably been in their contracts all along (if no consultation is required).

They have been doing their job correctly, that's the point though. I know my Dad doesn't leave early and neither does his friends but the company are treating them as bad as they can so they leave as they are trying to get rid of a lot of workers.

At the moment, I would say the employees are getting the treatment they deserve, but that's just me.

As for needing to get rid of staff, you're right, they do, otherwise all the staff are going to be out of a job (or a much higher number) when the company goes into administration...

Getting people to work a fair day for their days pay is only sensible, unfortunately it seems the union and many of the workers lack anything other than greed and cannot see the bigger picture (as is so often the case)

What because they are making their employee's work a full day?

No by changing their times and not giving them notice, by telling them they won't be payed in work due to times changing. Also by treating them like lowest of the low so they quit, it's now a way a company should be treating employee's.

I am not saying im with the striking as it's effecting my post aswell, but i do see where they are coming from.

Well everyone has their own opinions, i mean if i was treated the way i've been told by Dad and his friends then i'd be doing the same thing aswell.

I know they need to get rid of staff to streamline the business, but this is the wrong way of going about it.

Yeah as i've stated though, not everyone leaves early and if they do then it's because the works been done and there's nothing else to do. I know that they get payed a full day but what's the point sitting there doing diddly squat for a few more hours?

V1bez mate stay out of here if I was you, it’s not worth it tbh.

There is no need to defend you dad’s job we all just get branded with the same brush after all, I would love for a few people in here to work as a RM postie or in the sorting office or similar and I can bet you they would think twice about the comments they have made on here.

Oh! Cuchulain I’ve got a nice bottle of champagne here whilst playing on my new Laptop, good times.. ;)

It's ok mate, i've come to realise that already.

I am only defending his job due to him working there for 31 years, working his ass of for our family as i was growing up and still doing so now. He used to be a postman aswell, then moved into sorting offices, then did some management then back to sorting which he's still currently doing if i recall.

He's told me how it's gone from a really good place to work, to a hell hole and people getting treated like they are waste of space.

I'll just leave it be now, i've even done tempwork there and i've seen it first hand but it's not worth the arguements, i'll let people think what they want to think.

Good man :)

It’s something I’ve only being doing for a few years now and I myself have noticed very big changes I couldn’t imagine how much change your dad has seen, yes about 'the getting treated like they are waste of space' is spot on, nobody gives a monkeys about RM staff anymore more so it’s the higher management thats dishing it out, it’s an easy like to folk in here 'Putting a letter through a hole' I wish it was that simple would make my life 500 times easier but it’s not to be, we actually work our asses off day in day out but Ill leave it at that. People believe only what they want to believe be it if they hear RM staff on the news etc not everybody is like that nor is every sorting office.

I guess with them back to work with a week's workload to catch up on they are too busy to even leave a card for parcels. Just got home from the dentist to find my Xbox 360 wireless controller sitting by the front door, normally they take it back to the depo and leave a card.

It's all good me and you both know what it's like working there and also other people.

What's really struck me about this strike (no pun intended) is that unlike most strikes this one really doesn't have the support of most of the general public, I really don't know of anyone who's actually in support of the RM staff for stiking! At least before I could find someone who would agree with it or at least sympathise a little!

Look on the bright side - you can dump your girlfriend by post now and not have to bother with the backlash for a good few weeks!

Well they always say a letter is more romantic than a text!
