Convince me to get a PS3

Sorry, I'd love to help you, but at the moment with the games available there's no way I could recommend getting a PS3 over the 360. Are you dead set against a 360?

I hope this isn't breaking the rules don't hint :p ~ Z are selling them with Fifa 08 and the usual '2 selected games' for £350 which surely can't be bad

What are the kind of games that you like to play? Will you make use of the blu ray player? Why did you sell your 360?

Without knowing this we can't really make a good recomendation

I do intend to get a PS3 at some point, but there simply isn't anything out for it at the moment that is worth the hefty price tag.

I bet they'll shift a load of consoles if they ever get Gran Turismo out the door.

I have a 360 and a PS3. I have always been an x-box fan and never really been much of a fan for the Playstation.

Having a 360 it wins hands down at the moment for games, the PS3 is going through that stage that all new consoles have whereas there arent enough decent games available to make the console worth spending a lot of money on it. However, that said, some of the games that are due to be released look impressive, and are going to be built from the ground up because of the complete new system. However, you have to also consider that a majority of these games will also feature on the 360.

In my opinion the features on the PS3 outway those available on the 360, although whether you will use them is a diffrent story. If you like your movies then you cannot go wrong with the Blu-Ray drive.

I purchased a PS3 because I was impressed with my mates, and have looked at it as a long term investment because of the games that are coming out in the next year, and also knowing the market when I live, once good games come out, the console will sell out everywhere, and you wont be able to get your mits on one for months.

That said, there are enough games out on the PS3 to keep me entertained until these better games are released, and the likes of Assassins Creed are not too far away.

I'm umming and ahhing over a 60GB PS3 at the moment, I could do with a media player that doesnt make a sound like a police chase whilst in operation and whilst I'm 80% certain theyll release another unit with backwards compatibility once the stocks of the 60gb unit run out, that 20% is gnawing at me like a toothless yorkshire terrier.

In the end its up to you mate, but consider a few things ,
1) The 360 has a bigger game library at present, has more AAA rated games and has the Halo franchise
2) It is still unproven if the 360 RROD problems have been full addressed, even with a 3yr warranty for this problem only, if it fails you will still have the hassle of taking it back sending it Microsoft etc.
3) The PS3 has got some good if not great games out for it now, plenty enough to last till well into the new year when the even bigger releases are out.
4) HD-DVD/BD not an issue if you're not interested in Hi Def movies but if you want one then the 360 will cost you £99 more for the HD DVD drive were as the PS3 BD is included. Another thing to note is to check the current disk releases and see which format has the films you want to watch.
5) Xbox live is a better service currently, but you have to pay £40 a year to play online games where as the PS3 one is free. Live is more " Friendly " in a way that in game messenging and invites work but this should be sorted in the big PS3 update. If you just want to play games against your friends then PSN works great, also many Sony Franchise games EG Warhawk and RFOM have dedicated servers not just P2P.
6) Xbox 360 gets game demos normally before the PS3 or even Demos the PS3 doesnt get, also with the PS3 the EU PSN store is nowhere near as good as the US one so you have to sign up for a US account as well (not a problem though)
7) Many people think the 360 controller is great and the PS3 one nowhere near as good, in some cases it may be, but i still prefer the PS3 pad to the 360, but thats just my opinion. Also the Sixaxis doesnt have rumble, but early next year ( or this if you import like i am ) the Dual Shock 3 is out, which is a rumble enabled Sixaxis.
8) This is the big one for me, It depends on which Company games you prefer to play for example I would take GT over Forza any day. So if you have played Sony games on your PS2 then the PS3 is the only place you will be able to play them, much the same as with Microsoft Franchise games will only be on the 360. The Sony Games im talking about is things such as God of War, Ratchet and Clank, Jakk and Daxter, Gran Tourismo, Singstar, Killzone etc.
9) Not totally correct, but most 360 microsoft exclusives end up on the PC for example Gears of War, Halo, Bioshock. Im pretty sure that Halo3 and Mass Effect will both appear on the PC shortly, especially Mass Effect. So if you have a decent gaming PC it kind of negates some of the reasons to get a 360, but not all.

This is no way a comprehensive list but I hope it helps you in deciding which console. A few months back the 360 would be an easy choice to pick for some but now as the prices have dropped, more exclusive games are coming out and most multi platform games being about equal the PS3 is far easier to recommend.

Cant argue with that, a lot of thought went into that and a good arguement. I have to agree with it aswell.

Personally, I'd say not to base your decission on potential or unreleased games. You need only look at all the pre-release fuss and hype over games like Heavenly Sword, Folklore and (especially) Lair on the PS3, then compare to the actual release to see how unreliable that can be!

So far every xbox/360 exclusive i have ever wanted has been released on the PC. On the same note, very few of the PS2/3 exclusives i have ever wanted have been released on the PC.

This fact has made me opt for a PS3, i can get Gears, halo, bioshock on my PC (sometimes a little late, but it gets there eventually). However i doubt FFXIII, Little Big Planet, GT5, Resistance, Motorstorm etc will ever be released on anything other than the PS3. This way i get to spend the least money on consoles and miss out on as few games as possible.

Despite what folks are saying here - the PS3 does have the games. Ok - there's not many exclusives - but you dont have a 360 so that makes the argument irrelevent. It has a decent games library and there's some potential classics not far away.

The 360 owners will spout off about how many games the 360 has - but get this - you can only play one game at a time anyway :D

You're leaning towards the PS3 and in terms of specification the 60gig model is a fantastic deal - snap one up quickly :D

I have both.

360 brilliant. Live, Games, Controller, everything.

PS3 will be brilliant. Blu Ray player - Games in late 08 and beyond will be awesome. (please don't say drake it looks dreadful, but White Knight Story OMFG!)

thats a fair point.

In that case, why not pick up the 40gb version for £299?

At the end of the day its a games console - the sole purpose of which is to eat your life away doing nothing useful! If you need convincing then leave it. If you really want one then get it! It boiled down to two things for me:

1.) My macbook pro isn't really suitable for games
2.) PS3 has a blueray player so I can stop wasting my money on DVDs when Im just going to have to buy into hidef at some point anyway.

With the price drop i thought it was a good time to buy in, so I did.

I decided to sell my 360 about 2 months ago due to the issue that I didn't play the games I had tbh - collection was at 49 games, but nothing there that I hadn't finished that I wanted to play.

I enjoy platformers, third person shooters, and the odd driving game - but I'm looking forward to Guitar Hero and Rock Band. MGS also looks pretty damn good so far, but thats not out for ages.

I suppose what spurred me on was the news that the 60Gb BC PS3 is in the process of being phased out in this territory.

At the moment I don't really buy DVD's (Sold most of them when we bought the house) but I haven't really kept up with the issues between bluray and HD-DVD.

Hope that helps in some way

Seeing as you have already had a 360 and played 49 games on it (probably more than all those people who bang on about the 360's huge games library) and sold it. I cannot think why not to get a PS3, especially if you are keen to play old PS2 games you missed.

At the very least you should be able to get a 60gb unit with at least 2 games for £350

I sold my 360 to get a PS3 in July and I'm not disappointed at all, I'm not on it 24hrs a day so the current games are enough for me to be entertained at the moment. I am really looking forward to games due to be released in November onwards Assassins Creed, Haze etc.

I have no fear leaving the PS3 on for long periods of time which I didn't feel comfortable doing with the 360 incase it died.

The PSN store isn't great but signing up to the US site is easy enough and generally gets more goodies that the EU.

I think now is a better time to own a PS3 with the games already released and all the juicy games about to be released and the price drops its a more attractive option especially if you have a HDTV as Blu ray is fantastic! Also Home isn't far away now and this may just get the online service (which is free) closer to MS Live (which cost £30-40 per year).

The only things I miss about the 360 is the controller, acouple of the exclusives namely Halo 3 but nothing else tbh. I'll have the best of both at the end of the month as I've just bought my son a 360 to keep him off my PS3 ;)
