Family want plastic pen tops ban

I'm sorry for there lose but there complete idiots. everything has a risk, lets just go ban everything and live in a padded cell

I'm the surprised the school has banned them tbh.. sure say it was a tradgic accident but banning them seems a little bit of a knee jerk reaction to me.

You can get asbestos poisoning several ways, one of which can be as a result of building materials being used, which you're not party too.

The same cannot be said for chewing on a pen top.

Why not. People who die of Asbestoses are idiots for not wearing masks. Natural selection at work.

My grandfather died of asbesotosis (sub mariner) how on earth you can compare people exposed to dangerous substances identical to morons who shove things in there mouths and choke is beyond me.

Apart from at the time it was not known to be dangerous.. Now you can get it even if your not building it's a crumbly old substance when old.

But you have to be trolling if you think any of what you said is the same as a pen top.

The same could be said for this case.
And besides the danger of asbestos was not known untill well after it was used widespread in buildings

People have died from chewing there hair and swallowing it, should we all get our hair cut commando style?

The moral of the story is don't chew pen lids.
As has been said, who takes the pen lid off and puts the whole thing in their mouth? Maybe a toddler, surely a teenager would know the risk?
This kid was just being stupid and unfortunately he paid the price.

If banning pen tops saves just one life then it's worth it imo.

Oh dear..
Knives and scissors
Household chemicals
All hard surfaces (including roads and buildings)
Buildings more than 10' high
Cars
Bicycles
Stepladders
Garden tools and machinery
Electricity
Trees
Any flammable item, gases and flammable liquids

Want to ban all of those too?

I fully agree with that
I don't, There's no need. People kill themselfs all the time. Doing daft or incocent things. That turns into a terrible accedient. Things should not be banned on a whim. If things like that start getting banned where would it end.

To save just one life. Well

we Should ban knifes then we have teeth we don't need to chop our food up, better get rid of forks as well, after all we have hands to pick things up with,
Better ban cars as well we can walk.
Cycles better ban them as well
Just in case someone antecedently drinks it we better ban all cleaning products

Maybe we should ban nothing. Yay lets bring back Asbestos, DDT, Thalidomide

DDT is still used abroad for mosquito control in countries with malaria. Asbestos is still around in old buildings. Cant remember clearly but Thalidomide was mentioned recently, not all countries have proper controls on drugs used unfortunately.

edit:
wiki says its still in use

Further work showed that it was effective in multiple myeloma, and it is now approved by the FDA for use in this malignancy. There are studies underway to determine the drug's effects on arachnoiditis, Crohn's disease, and several types of cancers. However, physicians and patients alike must go through a special process to prescribe and receive thalidomide to ensure no more children are born with birth defects traceable to the medication.

As far as I'm aware, Thalidomide is used to treat people with leprosy in South America, but it is taken along with birth control pills.

I really think it's stupid for the family to call for a ban on pens. At the end of the day, he shouldn't have been eating a pen top, and if he hadn't been, he wouldn't have died.
