Hi,

How much do you need in a coin bag to be able to get a bank to swap the money over? I cannot remember and can't find it on the net.

ehhm i dont think it matters? as long as you dont mix ANY coins.
I did it once, they just weigh it after they make sure no other coins are mixed in.

£1 in coppers, £5 in 10/20p, £10 in 50p's and £20 in £1/2 coins, for complete bags, iirc.

[edit]£5 in 5p as well, though that one I'm least sure about.

Different amounts for different coins. Most banks will only change it of you have an account with them.

Aye it's different, but I have the full range of coins collected up.

I can remember £1 and £2 is in bags worth of £20. 1p and 2p being bags worth of £1. I cannot remember 5p, 10p, 20p and 50p though.

1p = £1
2p = £1
5p = £5
10p = £5
20p = £10
50p = £10
£1 = £20
£2 = £20

It normally says on the outside of the bags what you can put in them.

Says what needs to be in the bags on them doesnt it.

I dont have one handy so I can not tell you.

If you want it changed, theres money machines that do it - although you lose a little.

But as stated, it will be certain amounts.

Although, they've once weighed it and then that gave me what was in there.

but you can have as many bags as you want

I think it depends on the size of the branch.

When I went to change a lot of coins into notes, my local branch (quite a small one) told me that they're only meant to deal in small quantities of cash. I can't remember the limit but they said that if it was over £xx then I was meant to go to a larger branch, or contact them in advance.

That being said, they still changed it all for me, even though it was more than the amount they claimed to be their limit.

Those machines are called Coinstar.
They take 7.9p of every £1, however i read on hukd that some HSBC branches have the machines and it doesn't cost to use them if you have an account. It puts the money directly into your account too.

yep, there great. Used to use coinstar. It'll be hsbc next time. Only used them for notes so far. but they have coin ones as well.

Banks really annoy me like this.

If I had 1 million 1ps I'd expect them to let me pay it in to my account.

(I am aware that much money isn't legally tender in coins)
