No other car feels anywhere near as fluid - not A4, certainly not C class. Nothing else comes comes in terms of fluidity and the sheer way it flows. Drivetrain, acceleration, braking, gearbox, clutch, engine response, every single control....unsurpassed.

End of debate :p

You are almost certainly right - for pure driving enjoyment, as a drivers car, nothing in its class beats the 3 Series which is usually why RS audi's get shown up by the M3.

Lots of people will disagree with you though, most of which having never driven a 3 Series.

Whats perhaps more of a question is... does this really matter?

But still, this is OcUK. So, a car celeberated every where as being the drivers choice and available with a range of some the best engines the world has ever seen (I wonder if any car other than a 3 Series has had more Engine of the Year powerplants in it) will be derided as crap and boring, based on the fact that:

a) They dont have one
b) Everyone who does is a **** anyway
c) Everyone in their road has a shabby E36
d) Golfs and stuff are interesting, RWD 6 pots are not

But then this forum is obsessed with image. This is a forum who would say a Ferrari F430 is crap and boring if Ferrari sold 100,000 of them next year. This forum is able to erase and forget every talent a car has and judge it purely on how it looks and how many they see each day.

Ive drivien a 2004 (i think) 318i coupe on a private road. It sounded a bit like a diesel and was slow. But it was the best car Ive ever driven everything the OP said is true and they are a proper drivers car.

Rubbish cars driven by reps. Useless, not a patch on Rovers, Fords, Vauxhalls, Hondas or Toyota's, they are bought by just stupid owners who are sucked in by BMW's marketing. I drove one once and it was rubbish, not a patch on an Astra SRi. People just buy them because they think its cool and so they look good to the neighbours. Anyone who buys a BMW is a fool who is simply getting one up on the Jones down the road. RWD is flawed too, and they will crash everytime it rains.

All BMW drivers are crap too, Clarkson said so.

Could not agree more :)....all BM owners are ***** got a neighbour to prove that.....hardly anyone truly buys a BM for performance.....they spend 20k+ on a badge and thats it!! for it to sit on a drive and for you to think your neighbours will go OOOOOOOO "..BADGE SNOBS :) Ill stick to the RX8 any day of the week!

I liked my 330Ci Sport, probably the nicest car I have owned, but got the subaru because I wanted more power.

You're crazy!

In a good way ;)

I have a low end 3 series but it's certainly not a bad car, it's built with the same materials as the higher models and shares the same interior style - the main diff being engine and some spec differences.

It's the most comfortable and solid feeling saloon car I have ever driven (to date, 99 accord type-R, a4 2.8 quattro, 98 laguna sport) it may not be as fast as some of those mentioned but it's more comfortable in every aspect from driving position to ride noise and keeping outside noise...outside.

I cannot wait to get another one (looking at a 323ci~ within the next year or so maybe sooner if I get this new job next week!)

I have been driven in many cars too since I have had this one and none of them feel as comfortable as a 3 and mine doesn't even have the sports seats, of course to those who have the higher end 3 mine will feel like cack but then again this is where upgrade-fun comes in :)

So yeah, it might be common as much nowadays but there's a reason for it.

I'd wager at least half of the 3 Series drivers on the road neither know, nor care, quite how good their car is. It said BMW on the back, so they bought it. Sad fact unfortunately.

Schofield, I have a feeling Housemaster was joking.

The 3 series has been the best sports saloon since it was created. Bassicly!
